cancer in the pancreas

My dad has just been told he has cancer in his pancreas, and two more small growths in his liver.
We are all obviously devastated, I was wondering if anyone has any experience of this, and any words of comfort??
He has an appointment with the consultant on friday, and after that we should hopefully have a plan of action.
I would be really grateful if anyone has any advise.
Many thanks

YM, hope you're OK.

My dad was diagnosed in Italy - a relative who worked in the local hospital called to let my mum, sister and I know. She basically warned us that it was advanced enough for them not to be able to do anything about it. Just the same, we (I) brought him back to the UK for a second opinion, where sadly our fears were confirmed.

What made it worse is that, because of the kind of person my dad was, although he knew he was dying, no one actually believed he wanted to hear it, so none of us said it. Until a medic in his infinite wisdom decided he ought to be told.

I think the fact that they are suggesting treatment for your dad sounds good in itself - at least they must believe that there is some hope to be starting the treatment. And bear in mind that treatment may have moved on since my Dad died.

Try to keep cooking smells away - I don't know if your dad's the same but mine was very sensitive to smells, and many used to bring on feelings of nausea.

The Macmillan nurses were great, but we had to supplement them with agency nurses too. I remember we had a really lovely Welsh nurse who is still in touch with my Mum, and this was 15 years ago.

Let me know if there's anything I can help with.

All love

You are all angels, you don't realise how much it helps to have your advise and good wishes, it feels just lovely.

We ahve just come back form the hospital where dad has seen his macmillian nurse who was fantastic. The morphine seems to be helping with the painnow, which is good.
We have an appointment thursday to sort out starting the chemo and meet his consultant, who will lokk after him now.

Today we are all thinking positive (not yesturday!!!) but today we know that there is no cure, but lets just hope that the chemo shrinks the little buggers and we get loads of happy times ahead.

I send lots of love and all best wishes back to you all.
MB, my dad is starting gemcitabine if you have any advise, this would be very appreciated, thanks. I hope you dh is feeling good today xx

Thanks you all again - very much xxx
