Wisdom teeth

Hi all my wisdom tooth is causing me unbearable pain. I'd like it out ASAP.

I attend a private dentist clinic and looking at their website they don't offer wisdom teeth removals

I had a look around and it seems to cost £400 + I can't really afford that.
I could if I had no other option as I'm in a lot of pain but is there a way to bring that cost down? As my friend swears she had hers out last year for £150 but she lives 5 hours away.

Maybe your friend's was an easier removal. A lot depends on whether the tooth has fully come through, or whether it's impacted, or you may need more invasive treatment with stitches etc.

Dental costs are shit; when you're in pain you just want it dealt with but the prices are so high. Fwiw even if you were fortunate enough to have an NHS dentist where there are funding bands and the prices are lower, there are regularly scenarios where they can't carry out certain procedures because they're 'too difficult.' I have an NHS dentist but have had to switch to private for root canal treatment which they've said they don't have the expertise for - even though root canal is a treatment in the NHS funding bands!

Dental treatment is a joke in this country. Sorry, not what you want to hear but IME you're best off scraping the money together to sort out the problem. Dental pain is awful.

Ps I expect it varies a lot depending on area because of the difference in overheads for the dental practice. Eg Paying rent and rates on premises in a cheap area in the north of England is bound to keep the costs lower

Is it your upper or lower wisdom tooth? Upper are generally easier to remove. I had an upper one out on the NHS by my own dentist but she wouldn’t touch the lower ones. I think it also depends on your age - easier if you’re under 25 - and whether the tooth has fully emerged or not. I found prices do vary so worth calling a few places.
