20 month old with constipation - advice needed

Hi, I am thinking of taking dd to see our gp tomorrow as she has been suffering on and off from constipation. It is not very bad as she does have a BM most days but it does cause her some discomfort to go. I think the main problem is that she has a very small appetite so even though she eats fruit and vegetables every day the amounts, especially of fruit, are quiet small. For example, apples are her favourite fruit but she would eat only about a third of a small apple. If I cut up an orange she would eat one or two segements. She drinks fruit juice watered down and water but I am wary of letting her drink more fluids as I am worried it will fill her up and she will eat even less.
I have heard that medications for constipation can cause more problems but I hate to see dd in distress. Has any one any advice? Will the gp just advise me to give her more fruit and fluids? TIA

Prune juice ....(sainsburys/asda do it.. in a big glass jar- once opened you store in the fridge & it keeps for 2 weeks) works very well.... give a full beaker of this with a bit of water in it in the morning...its the best thing ever to use...& all completly natural
also... also..let her drink lots of water... dehydration can cause constipation or certainly make it worse...& it can make her stools hard

hope this helps? xx
