Anyone had successful gum graft for recessed gums?

Hits,

I have mild gum recession on two top teeth.due to bad brushing practices in my teens/twenties. I had a filling in the outside of one of them for twenty odd years with no problems. Now I’ve had to have it replaced twice in a year and the gum surrounding still hasn’t settled. I’m now thinking about a gum graft instead.

it seems very much dependant on who you go to as to how successful it is. If anyone had any recommendations I’d appreciate it. I’m based in East England.

thabk you 💐

I had grafts on my two upper canine teeth. It was around 2 and a half years ago and I'm still really happy with the results. Hurt like hell at the time but I imagine it would be much easier on just one side/area.

Ah a reply!! Thank you so much. Can I ask where you got it done? Did your own dentist refer?

No problem at all. I got it done at the Cosmetic Dental Clinic in Newcastle following a recommendation from a friend - they were great, I really couldn't fault them. It was £750ish in total for 2 areas.

I just had a treatment done today at the dentist for mild gum recession on two teeth. It wasn't a graft. The dentist kind of spliced the gum above the teeth with a scalpel to make a flap and sewed it in place over the exposed root area with stitches.

I presume if all goes well it will just heal over and Bob's your uncle. Amazingly there is very little pain so far.

I was having other treatments at the same time. Two replaced veneers and an extraction so the gum part was almost an afterthought. It only took a few minutes.

I had a graft done on some bottom teeth a few years ago. It was pretty hard going while the stitches were in but it's been successful.
Wrong part of the country for you though.

@RudsyFarmer I'm afraid telling you the dentist where I had it done doesn't help you much as I live in Germany.

I believe the procedure is called gum pedicle graft surgery. For my dentist it seemed very run of the mill and not something out of the ordinary.

I found this description online...

Pedicle grafts. In this procedure, instead of taking tissue from the palate, it is grafted from gum around or near the tooth needing repair. The flap, called a pedicle, is only partially cut away so that one edge remains attached. The gum is then pulled over or down to cover the exposed root and sewn into place. This procedure can only be done in people who have plenty of gum tissue near the tooth.

I'll try to post some before and afters photos when the stitches are out.

Massively helpful. I’ll go look it up 👌

Hi @RudsyFarmer I know this was a while back but wonder if you went ahead and if so how it went? Thank you!
