Muscle twitching

Has anyone had this and it was harmless? I have health anxiety and diagnosed myself with MND this morning..

For the last couple of days one of the muscles on my left arm keeps twitching. I occasionnalyget one in my foot and right leg.

In general I have been feeling funny all week and was starting to wonder if it could be Covid - tiredness, brain fog, vertigo. No cold symptoms though so I am now so worried I have some sort of a neurological condition.

I often find myself opening and closing my fists as they don't feel quite right, almost like pins and needs but not quite, but I'm constantly carrying a heavy baby and have a sore back so thought it was due to that.

I'm freaking out. Dh is downstairs with the kids and am hiding in the bedroom imagining that this is the end of life as I know it and I will never see them grow up ;((

I get restless legs especially when I’m tired so I take a magnesium supplement which works very well for me. Might be worth trying?

NighghtmareNeighbour · 25/06/2022 08:39

Yes, magnesium helps me with twitchy muscles. The other thing could be a B12 deficiency, that can cause neuropathic type symptoms and tiredness.

I get muscle twitching all the time. You do not have MND. It usually starts with paralysis, well that's what a doctor told me and muscle twitching predominantly in the facial area. Go to the doctor as you could be lacking in a vitamin but I can probably say, you do not have lMND.

Yes! I had this. First things first, you don't have MND and the more you google the worse the symptoms get. I convinced myself that I had something awful wrong with me. It took an MRI and a neurologist appointment to convince me otherwise. Turns out I have Benign fasciculation Syndrome. (There are Facebook Support groups that are helpful). Don't google anymore and see a GP to get your bloods done. Pay particular attention to your vitamin B levels.
Health anxiety is horrendous. I was convinced I was going to die, turns out it was probably the remnants of a virus.
Feel free to message me if you want to chat.

Thank you so much all for responding. So tired having spent the last 10 days in a constant state of heightened anxiety. At the beginning of this I thought I had a brain tumour, but the twitching is new so I then moved on to MND.

Honestly just hearing a stranger tell me I don't have MND really helps.

I need to stop Googling as I found a GP helpsheet "could this be MND" and I tick so many of the symptoms arghh.

@user1471499545 that's interesting that for you it was the remnants of a virus. Did you have typical virus symptoms prior to start with? I haven't had a cold as such but have had nausea, tummyache, mild headache to start with.

I just want to feel normal again.

God yeah all the time. Weird places too. My finger twitched almost continuously for two days straight then just stopped. My eyelid used to twitch so bad it looked like I was winking at people. Even my thigh muscle occasionally has a good old wobble.

I also convince myself I'm dying but it nearly always coincides with times of lack of sleep, or stress.

whatdodos · 25/06/2022 11:05

Oh OP I feel you bur don't worry they are nit the signs of MND! I've always had these and I have epilepsy too, I've just had my licence back after a year of no seizures and I was convinced they were seizures and my licence was going to be taken away from me again. My neurologist told me it wasn't anything and turned out I just needed magnesium supplements xx

Blinky21 · 25/06/2022 11:11

This is really common and biggest cause is stress, hormone imbalances and peri menopause is also a common reason as is dehydration. I get them everywhere whenever I'm stressed

user1471499545 · 25/06/2022 13:35

I had been sick a few weeks before hand, but didn't put two and two together until my neurologist mentioned that it was probably from a virus.
Just step away from the computer, I get it is hard and you are looking for assurances that it's not anything nasty. Go see your GP and get some advice on health anxiety and intrusive thoughts.
Wishing you all the best.

Hairyfairy01 · 25/06/2022 22:45

MND wouldn't typically be twitching. More of a rippling wave. Typically seen on the tongue. People are right in that google is often peoples worse enemy, and the chance are things are fine. But If you are concerned do seek expert advice.

Hi,
I have had this since mid March. My daughter started creche and I returned to work in January and subsequently we picked up every cough, cold and bug going! It started with pins and needles, on both sides but predominantly left side, then started having muscle twitches in legs, feet, arms and bum sometimes. Had myself convinced that I had an awful disease, had all the bloods, all fine! Had a brain & spinal MRI- all fine. Saw a neurologist the other day, said he will do nerve conduction tests but after physical exam and explanation of my symptoms thinks its stress/anxiety related and most probably benign! Hopefully, it is now as I am definately one to stress and have anxiety, more so since having a baby!

OnNaturesCourse · 09/06/2023 09:53

Me.

Had since mid teens - over 20 years now.

Its never got worse or changed much.

I have found it to happen when I'm tired or run down, or in for a bug of some sort like a cold etc.

Usually my thigh muscle but occasionally my eye lid or arm/hands.

It can be down to dehydration too.

Crikeyalmighty · 09/06/2023 19:29

Incredibly common post covid or vaccines too- as are the bloody pins and needles - ( I've had the lot) some people have had all this going on 3 years and all tests come up fine.
