Worried (still!) and looking for help with sick DS

Hi

I have been on Mumsnet before and have been given great advice and would like to ask for some again please.

DD1 is 9 months next week. Here is a potted history since September:

3 Stomach Bugs (one was Noro/Novo? Virus)
2 Colds
Terrible weaning due to level of sickness

She was just getting into her stride again on the weaning when she fell down with a cold on the 11 December. She has been pretty snotty (to use the only term that best describes) ever since but seemed to get worse last week. By Saturday night she had a temperature of 104 and it took us 3 hours and various methods/meds to reduce it back down. She has chest and ear infection and is also now vomiting.

She is desperate for water, so I give her the cup and she downs too much too quickly, almost frantic and is then sick. Also, if I try solids (just babyrice) then she is super keen but one mouthful makes her gag and vomit.

Now the gross bit, what is came up tonight was about 150ml (I kid you not) of mucus over 2 vomit attacks.

Has anyone else had this? Will the immediate gag reflex to the solids go away once she has finished the cold? She goes balistic if I try to put in Medised to try to dry up the mucus. Should I force the issue and try to dry it up?

Can anyone help me. Getting very worried now that we will never get back to normal. I work and have managed to get this week off but next week I guess its back to Nursery.

Help? Many thanks in advance.

mellie it is very common for them to vomit mucous because they can't cough it out so to speak they swallow it and it makes them vom and it can be large amounts
keep giving the fluids and solids and accepting that some may make a reappearance

she will get back to normal but it may take a little while infants often regress when they have been ill
you poor things you've really been through it recently hope you all feel better soon

I would definitely take her to see a doctor

thanks andie, thank you, will try to keep on keeping on!

Bundle - we have been to the docs twice, once on Saturday to the out of hours place and he diagnosed the ear infection and gave antibiotics.

By Monday she was no better so went to my own doc who said she also had a chest infection and to carry on the way we were. He thought her stomach probs were due to her cold.

I am so worried that if she even takes one thing into her mouth that is not liquid she immediately gags and vomits. Could this be due to the large amount of mucus running down the back of her throat or is she now just scared?

is her temperature coming down with medication?

Twiglett · 15/01/2008 17:57

does she seem dehydrated .. has she had a wet nappy in the last 8 hours? are her lips moist?

andiemustlosehalfastonemore · 15/01/2008 18:13

as long as she is taking fluids then the solids will go back to normal once she feels better what often happens is they eat for england after they have been ill to catch up on their weight

Just had a long chat with an NCT teacher, I think we may have found the route cause. DD has had this cold for a month and was coping just fine with the 'snot' right up until the doc gave her amoxil antibiotic. Since then she has had terrible diaorrhea (spelling!) and sickness. NCT lady asked me to check if the nappy smelt like the amoxil and it does! It is even the same colour. Could it be she is allergic to penicillin?

Also (now furious) DD has bad eczema and apparently amoxil contraindicates with eczema! So why was she prescribed it in the first place.
