Psoriasis of Scalp

FlipFlops4Me · 22/06/2022 12:06

Anyone got any magic cures? My GP surgery isn't seeing people at the moment (too busy - they sent texts to all patients saying don't try and make an appointment, we're too busy to see you).

Their website has advice pages and their advice for psoriasis of the scalp is to use corticosteroids - betnovate for mild cases or betamethasone for more serious. I just happen to have unopened tubes of both for differing skin complaints that I suffer from but I've not used them for my scalp before because I haven't had scalp psoriasis since my teens. I'm going with the betamethasone because my scalp hurts badly and in my view that makes it a more serious case.

Any advice/suggestions of other treatments? I rather think I've given up on my GP except as a source of repeat prescriptions

This is amazing. I think I used the betamethasone about three hours ago. Then i gently picked at the flakes and then brushed my hair. SUch a lot came out or were loosened. Next I washed my hair with therapeutic Tegrin and my psoriasis is already better than it's been for weeks.

I'm letting my hair dry naturally (to avoid blasting the psoriasis with hot air from my hair dryer) and then I'll use the ointment one more time today - probably after dinner. Then I can wash it again tomorrow morning.

Luckily I have a terrific conditioner that keeps the rest of my scalp from drying out!

Alphosyl shampoo worked wonders for me x

Coal tar based shampoos worked for me. If you can't see your GP you may be able to get some recommendations from a pharmacist

Ignore the topical stuff - you need to fix it from the inside

cut out carbs

Rookieoftheyear · 01/07/2022 22:37

I use t-gel. You could try cutting out carbs as suggested above, doesn’t seem to make a difference for me but I keep meaning to strip everything back and see what happens. Mine cleared up a lot when I was pregnant which was interesting. I’m a bit wary of aggressive treatment if not absolutely necessary as for me the potential side affects outweigh the benefits.

DC has first flare up a few months ago. Was quite persistently bad on scalp with Cocois making little difference then they got ill and suddenly it seems to have cleared up. It’s an interesting condition.

@Rookieoftheyear

Your immune system dampens down a bit when you’re pregnant. This is to prevent you rejecting the foetal cells.

I had a miscarriage when my psoriasis was absolutely at its worst - I looked like a burns victim- and I’ve always thought they were linked. In my other pregnancies I had minimal psoriasis

Dovobet gel and capasal shampoo. It’s the only combination that’s helped me. I get it in my ears as well and the Dovotbet helps there too.

Acupuncture and Chinese herbs are very effective for psoriasis and other autoimmune disorders. If you are in London, I recommend Wellbeing Clinic based in Richmond (East Sheen)

Coal tar shampoo 😊

I use coal tar shampoo. And betnovate lotion when it flairs.

Mine is considered mild, but is very persistent - it has never completely cleared in over 30 years.
