Loose bowel movements in 14 month old - should I be worried?

My daughter has been having loose bowel movements (cake mix is best way of describing it) for 2 weeks. She has actually been having these types of bowel movements on and off for months, but she is fine in herself so I didnt think to worry. However I am now starting to think maybe I should be.
Should I take her to the doctor? I hate going and then they look at you like you are mad and tell you not to worry.
Has anyone experienced anything similar? Please help

We have. My son who is 11 now suffered for years from what the doctors called toddlers tummy. Very common does settle down eventually. Just be careful that shes not drink too much fruit juices. If you do give fruit juice you need to dilute.

Take her to the gp just to check though.

My son is very similar. He is 17 months and mostly has "cake mix" consistency poo (really horrible to clean up when I don't notice immediately and he has been running around for a while). He's been like that for months - I haven't taken him to the docs as he is clearly well - but will watch this thread with interest...

He doesn't drink any fruit juice but has a lot of tomatoes, can they have a similar effect?

Interesting about the fruit juice. She has an innocent smoothie every morning. Maybe I should cut that out. Thanks for the tip

DS2 (3) was like this he ate loads of fruit which is obviously good but his poo was horrid! he particuarly liked lots of bananas and would eat three small ones a day if i let him (and still would) but i cut this to 1 a day and also cut down his fruit intake and replaced it with more veg and he was 'better' after that more 'solid cake mix' if you like!!

DS3 (20mths) is now becoming like this i think its common so wouldn't worry too much unless your DD is in any pain with it

If the toddler is well in all other ways, is this actually a problem? (don't know, am asking).

sparklesandwine · 15/01/2008 14:22

i never saw it as a problem as DS2 was never in any pain, it was just the was he was!

but i did potty train him quicker than the others his nappies we're horrible!

DD started like that at 13mths, and stayed that way til she was almost 2, when she became quite constipated and was diagnosed with compacted/immature bowel. Things are just becoming "normal" now at 3.6

For what it's worth, I'd rather have the looser movements - they never bothered her, but the constipation did!

Thanks all. I feel less worried now. Agre is better to not be constipated, and I am glad she likes her fruit! Plus she is teething constantly (has been getting a tooth consistently since 3 months old!) Has 16 now at 14 months - only 4 to go! I think maybe when she finishes teething, things may get better
