Much appreciated

What range of movement have you got now?

UrsulaPandress · 21/06/2022 20:25

Full. Although I don’t kneel down.

CandyLeBonBon · 21/06/2022 20:30

Is that because you can't or don't want to?

UrsulaPandress · 21/06/2022 21:54

I think I was told not to and just haven’t felt the need.

How many steroid injections did you try?

Place marking as have been told I may need one of these at some point.
Ive had 1 steroid injection and it didn't do much. Only lasted a few weeks.

HairyKitty · 22/06/2022 08:12

Unless things have changed nowadays, my mum was told she can’t put the knee at less than 90 degree angle ie can never kneel or go beyond the 90 degree again (as the joint could pop out and need fresh surgery). When I think about it that’s a bit more restricting than it sounds.

Same here 😭

UrsulaPandress · 24/06/2022 14:47

I had one steroid injection. Didn’t do much as my knee was all over the place.

I did fall over last year and ‘over bent’ my knee. It was stiff for a few weeks but no damage done.

loopylindi · 24/06/2022 14:59

I had TKR at the end of last year. It's made walking about easier, but because I had too wait over 2 years I've now got trouble in the other knee, plus arthritis in spine (lower back) so that is causing more pain than the knee. The op itself was fine. I had a spinal injection and sedation. Didn't feel or hear a thing. 3 days in hospital, good pain relief, so no real pain. You must do the physio daily to get as much movement back as possible - but don't expect miracles.

ginghamstarfish · 24/06/2022 15:16

I've had mine done, it failed, then done again, failed, so sorry not much positive to say. I know some who've had great results. I've always understood it's better to have a full than a partial, if you're going through surgery anyway.

loopylindi · 24/06/2022 15:19

@ginghamstarfish In what ways did your knee replacement fail?

@ginghamstarfish In what ways did your knee replacement fail?

First time had poor recovery despite much physio etc. Developed adhesions in the joint capsule. Was disabled from then on, still am. Never got the required bend/straightening. After about 3 years it became unstable so had to have it redone. Poor outcome again, lots of physio, hydrotherapy. Cannot bend more than about 30 degrees. Now the other knee needs replacing as it has borne the brunt all this time. Both ops private, researched the surgeons, but to no avail. But the majority recover well.

clopper · 28/06/2022 23:43

I had a great result and regained my mobility. 2 days in hospital. Really painful at the start but I really pushed myself to get my knee bending. I probably need the other one done now but I guess it will be a long wait these days.

Answer to this should be 0.

No indication for steroid injections for knee arthritis.

It's against the NICE guidelines, is of no clinical benefit and risks a steroid flare, or worse, an infection.
