Im so depressed, shes got a condition(rare)that prevents the enamel bonding on her teeth, shes had several fillings already, plus healozone therapy, but five are past it and shes to be referred for extraction under general,

Don't worry she will be fine, they recover from it very quickly. What is the condition? Has the dentist told you wether it is likely to affect her adult teeth?

Shiboriamplehips · 15/01/2008 13:06

They wont know until her adult teeth come through.

Which condition is it? Is it currently affecting all her teeth or just some?

FatBellyJones · 15/01/2008 13:12

this happened with my son. Don't worry, recovery from the anaesthetic is very fast and she'll be right as rain the next day

My son's adult teeth came through fine too

My dd had a similar problem at 4. She had gaps in the enamel in her molars and had to have them filled and coated under a ga. She recovered quite well with no problems.

There was a young girl in hospital the same day having 8 teeth out. She recovered reasonably as well but did throw up a little from blood being in her tummy which is to be expected with that many extractions.

Really hope it doesn't affect your dd's adult teeth.

My friends little girl had 5 teeth out when she was 4

she recovered well and was fine

This happened to me when I was a child. I had lots of baby teeth taken out and had to go to the dentist every 2 weeks for years. My adult teeth however are really strong. I'm 32 now and have only got one minor filling from decay (had to have a root canal after cracking a tooth but that had nothing to do with the state of my teeth!)

I'm sure she will be fine - I mainly remember the treats I used to get for being good at all the dentist visits rather than the visits themselves so it can't have been too traumatic for me

Thanks, its a horrible feeling, shes gorgeous, but has a jagged and discoloured smile which i worry will get her teased, and shes in pain, and im concerned about her adult teeth, cant remember the name of the condition,my other three kids have immaculate teeth.

all of her teeth are affected, but the healozone hardened the enamel and slowed the progress

Hi,
We've had a similar problem with my 5 year old DD. She had to have 6 teeth removed and went into hospital last week to have it done in theatre.

I worried myself stupid for weeks but all went okay. She was put to sleep with gas for about 10 mins and had a needle in her hand etc. Seeing her in recovery was tough, that was the hardest part. We went in hospital at 3.15pm, were back home for 5pm and she was eating warm soup and bread at 7.30pm.

It's amazing how resilient they are

Shiboriamlehips...let me know how you get on.

I'd never heard of this problem and was shocked when the dentist told us. She's never had fillings etc, just straight to being referred to hospital. Her back teeth were very weak and were breaking easily and one was infected.

The hospital were great. They gave her a Calpol tablet to chew while we were discussing things with the dentist and aneasthetist then it was straight in, put to sleep with gas and I was called into recovery within 10 mins. She was upset for an hour afterwards partly because she doesn't like needles and there was one in her hand when she came round and partly abit of shock (she is a delicate little thing).

As I said, she was eating within a couple of hours. She needed Calpol and Nurofen that night but none the next day..I was amazed.
x

Is this healozone available on NHS or is it private? My DS has same prob re enamel. He's in a lot of pain and I'm trying to decide if it is worth coaxing him back to the dentist to attempt to get filling that fell out put in again or go straight to having tooth out. Reassuring to read how quickly they get over this. Do they give the gas first before they put needle in hand or do you need their co-operation for it? Are you still going for the extraction Shiboriamplehips?

Lushaddict · 26/01/2008 23:35

The gas is first and the needle goes in whilst they're aleep Saltnshake
