This might sound silly but…

I woke this morning with a completely dead arm.
Not the usual tingly pins and needles you’d usually get after sleeping funny, my arm was completely numb, like it was paralysed. Like it belonged to someone else and I had and absolutely no control over it.

I freaked out for a moment and startled myself by shouting ‘What the fuck!’, sat on the side of my bed and the feeling slowly started to come back after a couple of minutes.
It wasn’t followed by any tingling, just slowly came back to life.

Could this have been caused by sleeping funny? Or is there something to worry about?
I know this sounds like a childish question but I’ve honestly never experienced anything like it!

This has happened to me a handful of times in my 70 years, and I am fit and healthy with full use of my limbs! It is scary when it happens, a very weird feeling, but I do think it is probably from sleeping in a position that blocks the nerve and is actually nothing to worry about unless it happens habitually.

This is really common
I've woken up a few times and punched myself in the face with my dead arm

If it happens again it might be something pressing on a nerve. Maybe see an osteopath?

It's not unusual, has happened to me a few times. Usually when I've fallen asleep with my arm above my head.
It is scary, and does give you a very brief insight to what someone who has lost use of their arm due to a stroke feels like.

Thanks everyone, you’ve put my mind at rest! I know it was a silly thing to panic about but I genuinely have never felt anything like it before. Quite scary tbh.
