Autism in adults? Something else?

Read some information- which got me thinking about my personal traits and about me as a person
Then I ended up on NHS website reading about stuff like autism for example

  • read the "symptoms" : I have that, and that, and that ect ect to almost all the things listed

I've always wondered if I had something- I was abuse physically and mentally so I'm not sure if that has added to that. My parents were my attackers so they never would have taken me to doctors- so is it possible I have something like that or am I just over thinking?

I KNOW if I wanted to genuinely know I'd have to go GP as it would only be a armchair diagnosis here.
But I don't want to waste GP time for something that they may laugh at me for...

And in all honesty- I just feel stupid

Not even sure what I'm asking tbh...
just needed to clear my thoughts or see if I could get a outsiders opinion

My friend went to GP and asked for ASD assessment when she was early forties. She was formally diagnosed and says although it doesn't change things for her it made her understand that she is who she is.
She encouraged me when ASD diagnosis was suggested for my teen dd as she saw similiarities to how dd is and how she was as a teen.
My dd was formally diagnosed ASD last month at age of 18.

It depends if you think a diagnosis would help, though it's worth noting that PTSD and autism share some traits.

Do they do tests in the GP surgery or do you have to travel? I wouldn't be able to travel anywhere so don't know if there's any point asking for tests
What are the tests like?
