ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 19/06/2022 20:50

I developed bursitis after gardening about 3 weeks ago.

Rested it for 3 weeks. Did a tiny bit of gardening today and it’s back. Swelling and pain. Worse than first time😩

Do l need to see Gp?

My husband got housemaid's knee (good knows how!) last year. He rubbed ibuprofen gel into it and it disappeared very quickly.

It's probably more sensible to see your GP about it though.

My partner ended up with knee burstitis a few years ago. He first went to the walk in centre with pain in his knee and was misdiagnosed with something else. Two weeks later he could hardly walk and was in agony so eventually I had to take him to A&E. At first they were worried it could be a septic joint before finally confirming the burstitis. He was given medication (antibiotics I think) and was unable to walk for another two weeks. Definitely make an appointment to see your GP.

I can walk, it’s just really painful. It’s the fact that it’s returned that’s worried me.

Following because I’ve had it for MONTHS and it’s driving me mad! It’s ok when I walk but stairs are agony and I live in a very tall thin house and need to carry a heavy toddler up and down!

HelloViroids · 19/06/2022 21:50

Should add, Ive been to A and E (when I first got it as was sudden agony) and then physio which isnt helping

I had it in my hip , also agony. Used the ibuprofen gel, sheet of excercises from gp which wasn’t shifting it. The thing that helped the most was putting a green teabag in with every cup of tea I had so five or six a day. After three or four days the pain started to diminish, and after a couple of months I can do 20 mins of yoga again. Flares up occasionally but eases off quickly as in the habit of green tea with everything now.

Did you drink the green tea or put it on your swelling? Green tea gives me insomnia.

Stairs😣yeah.😭

Ive put a compression bandage on mine. This means l can almost walk down the stairs instead of trying to sledge down hanging on to the bannister😭

Drank it.
Hot flannel dipped in ginger root tea helps with reducing swelling. Cook up a couple of inches of sliced ginger root until the water turns yellow then hot flannel for ten minutes or so. Repeat several times a day. More faff than the tea but great pain relief. works with ground ginger as well.

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow how is your knee ? Does the compression bandage help ?
I have what I presume is bursitis in knee .Swollen ,painful ,hard to weight bear on that side .
Rest and cold compress and ibuprofen gel all help but don't cure and we're off for a week away tomorrow .

I had bursitis in both hips and it was resolved with steroid injections.

That might be an option, although I realise the knee is a very different joint.
