Fungal nail

I have 2 funghal nails, next to each other. I went to the podiatrist and had it confirmed as it occurred very very quickly after I had my foot stood on by my child. Since September I’ve been using excilor every day and I’m seeing absolutely no improvement.
I don’t want to go down the oral medication route so will persevere a bit longer.

Anyway. Does anyone know of any treatment I can put nail polish over? I’m going on holiday in 2 months and want to hide my thick, yellow crumbly nails that are thankfully on my little and 4th toes rather than the big ones.

I don't think an injury would cause that as its fungus? Fungal infection?

My mum believed for many years she had fungal nails and several of them, doctor agreed gave her tablets blah blah and nothing helped and eventually they took a scaping, there was no fungus at all and it's simply just damaged but sadly they have never repaired.

Sorry I meant I went to the podiatrist thinking it was an injury but she tested it for fungus to confirm

Oh I see, I think they are pretty tough to treat and take a while, start treatment asap and will probs need tablets.

You could put nail varnish on but remember that once you've used the nail varnish brush on the infected toes it could contaminate everything else!

Do you know the specific name of the fungus the culture grew? The creams and paint are specifically different.

Lamisil cream and curanail would be a better combination I think.

Also oral antifungals are usually needed for longstanding symptoms.

I would see your gp and if no better after treatment then perhaps a dermatologist.

I have struggled with fungal nails for two years - they got a lot worse during pregnancy and spread from one little nail to two others and now they’re so bad I’m left with no option but to have them removed and take a course of the tablets.

I’ve been told by every podiatrist I’ve seen that the paint-on stuff doesn’t work - I tried it anyway and I wish I hadn’t wasted so much time doing so as they’ve only got worse and spread.
