I like my GP but I really need a second opinion...how do I do this?

Hi everyone

Has anyone had my problem where I like my GP, she has been really supportive and helpful BUT I think she is missing picking up on results of my tests and jsut glossing over results that I feel are significant!

I want to get a second opinion from one of the other GP's at my surgery but I want to do it in a political way as I need to keep her on my side.

How should I go about this?

Well I am a GP and I wouldn't give it a second thought if you went to see one of the other doctors. So just get an appointment with one of the others and don't worry about it!

Thanks thegrowlygus

That puts my mind to rest!

While you are here, can I bother you with a query?

If a blood test result came back and progesterone levels were low, I am assuming that the GP would suggest correcting this? (which she hasn't! )

Depends on lots of things like why you had it in the first place, when it was taken, the labs normal parameters...plus a low progesterone (on its own) isn't the most straightforward thing to sort out.
Sorry - that's not much use is it? Difficult for me to be terribly precise as my insurance won't cover me for internet consultation!

Don't worry thegorwlyguys....I won't sue you promise!

Hahahah

I just want to get as many opinions as possible before I see my GP again .

THEGROWLGUS

Hi I was wondering if i could ask you a question. I understand you have to be careful with what you print on the net due to your job. And respect it, if you cant answer.

I had my progesterone levels taken on day 21 and the results were 94. I understand this means I ovulated. I was searching mumsnet and a lot of peoples progesterone results are 60 or below.

I was wonsering is mine to high. I am currently taking clomid for the first time.

Ay if another person asks you question mumsnet will have to start paying you lol

thegrowlygus · 16/01/2008 20:25

It all depends on the normal range that your lab uses.
Can't remember all the figures off the top of my head but this site (which is a good one btw!) says anything over 20 is good and 90 is the upper end of the range.

here

and here

Hope that helps!

(in my school year book it says I would be most likely to be the doctor on This Morning. Have never made it to those heady heights, but perhaps Dr to mumsnet might do. I came within the top few for an 'agony aunt/doctor' on a bbc teen website. Does that count?!)

thegrowlyguys

thank you that sounds great.

the info you provided was fantastic. Good luck with the job(and yep that counts).

Im sure you will do well what ever you do you obviously have the time to listen and voice your experties to the best of your knowledge which in my book is a great attribute to being a great doc so good luck

Thanks for that info growly!

I jsut had a catch up with another GP today ( 2nd opinion! ) and he picked up instantly on my low progesterone.

I even found out what it was!

Was quite shocked as it was a mere 9 !!!!!!

He told me it should be at least 30 to confirm ovulation.

And I think it is great that you can help out desperate ladies like us on mumsnet, I wish all GPs cared as much!
