Inflammation of the chest bone? Anybody else had this?

Have had this for a week now and am on diclofenac and paracetamol for the pain. Has anybody got any experience of this and do you think I'm as silly as my other half thinks I am as I'm going back to work tomorrow afternoon.

never heard of it tbh,but I have fractured my sternum in a car accident and it was agony.
If you have a fairly sedentary job I would say it was fine.Think I had a few days off but I was studying at the time so not really physical work.

I work in a really busy shop where I'm continually on the go. Have managed to only go in the afternoon as I'm finding the mornings really difficult with the pain. How long did it take to heal when you injured yourself?

Is it the bone that just under your boob. If it is then yes I have had it and get regular bouts of it.
My doctor gave it a very long name (can't remember) I think it has something to do with the cartilage
seemingly alot of athletes get it and it hurts like hell. I sometimes can't breathe in normally because of it.

do you mean costochondrosis?

my mum has had this for about four years and it has been quite difficult for her BUT I understand that its much more common in younger people, and its usually meant to clear up pretty quickly. i think you are meant to rest as much as you can [ha ha ha, like that's possible for any parent of young children] and heat treatment is supposed to help.

i sort of think if paracetomol isn't enough to deal with the pain then you probably are nvt well enough to work. but then anything stronger than paracetomol and i fall asleep standing tbh.

hope you feel better soon

took weeks about 4 i think

was a long time ago though

hope you feel better soon

Yes Mazzystar that is what I have. Have messed around with my pain relief over the past week including a trip into A and E as I couldn't get the pain under control and whilst I was in there I found the combination of the pain relief that I'm on now is working, just takes a while in the morning to get me going. With 4 kids and a demanding job to hold down I don't really get much time to rest, but do find my heat pads work really well. Can't believe though it could take up to 4 weeks to heal, boo hoo!

I have had costochondrosis......stemmed from my car accident last october (hit the steering wheel).

bloody painful, and couldn't wear a bra for 3wks! (wore support vests instead).

first months very very sore, now just aches if I lift anything heavy.

can last for up to 8mths, altho the first month is the worst (according to my docs).

I had volterol (diclofenac) and also tramadol, altho to be fair I was hurting elsewear too.

co-dydromol may be better than paracetomol on top of the diclofenac.

jezzemx · 14/01/2008 23:58

yep that's it. Hurts like hell

Immaculateconception · 15/01/2008 00:01

Am allergic to codine, so doctors are weary about putting me on anything like that. Am on the max dosage of diclofenac and at the moment doesn't seem to do a lot on its own, its only when I take paracetamol with it and the pain eases.
