Not sure it's due to pre diabetes yet but I have fluid leaking into the back of my eye due to leaking blood vessels. No idea why yet but suspect its pre diabetes and or my blood pressure.

what do you want to know? What’s your question?

IncessantNameChanger · 17/06/2022 20:07

About diabetic retinopathy I guess. How high does blood sugars need to get to cause it that kind of thing. My Hbc1 is 40 so I dont really have pre diabetes levels but only just. I'm wondering how uncontrolled do blood sugars need to be to cause retinal blood vessels to leak.

Its been put down to high blood pressure in the past but wondering how common pre diabetes levels damage eyes. Not something I was aware of until today. That kind of thing

8% of people with pre diabetes develop diabetic retinopathy

40 is well within normal range. It may be blood pressure, it may be another eye condition.

You taking steps to lower your blood pressure and sugar levels?

IncessantNameChanger · 17/06/2022 20:36

On BP meds but nothing with regards to blood sugars. I test it randomly at home and its often over 6 when I wake up. It was 7.5 this week. Seems a bit hight to me fasting but I'm no expert

One off spikes are not uncommon, most people would simply not be aware. Lots of things can affect it - hydration level, alcohol intake, heavy or late meal, activity etc. Drinking fluids can help both bp and glucose levels.

ChicCroissant · 17/06/2022 21:05

Have you been advised to test your blood sugars, OP? If it has been put down to high blood pressure in the past what makes you think it is pre-diabetes now?

IncessantNameChanger · 17/06/2022 21:15

So if my Hbc1 is under 41 and not in the pre diabetes range then it's ok and unlikely to be related? Eye clinic keeps asking I'm diabetic. I said I had one pre diabetes reading and now it hovers just below pre diabetes. So basically it's a no.

Its confusing as im in the diabetics/ AMD clinic but I dont have either. I guess that's the only clinic so its irrelevant really. Just wondering if it could be a possible cause of the leaky vessels. Untill today they thought it was tiny blood clots but now it looks like leaks.

Pre-diabetes is highly unlikely to cause diabetic retinopathy. And blood pressure would have to be very high indeed to cause issues like that. But it’s difficult to give any more clues without knowing the location and nature of the fluid leaking.

I have to go back within 4 weeks but it's in one of these layers. I have a bump on bothering eyes just on the edge of the dip in the middle. Consultant says I have lots of them all my eye.

I'm worried about wet AMD but the Dr says it's not in that deep layer
