Is this a bald patch at the back of my neck?

I was in the bathroom with 2 mirrors looking at the back of my hair. I noticed the back of my hair at the neck is uneven.

Is hair at the back of the neck supposed to be like this or is this a bald patch setting in?

I am nearly 40 and I noticed my hair is thinning. I did a search on thinning hair and I read it can be caused by low iron. I do have low iron so I will take iron supplements religiously from now on.

I cant see any balding patch at all, just the ways its pulled up makes 1 area look thinner! Is it the eczema rash you are referring to??? Is that itchy or irritating? That is more of a concern IMO because if you are scratching that area then it make well make the hair thinner.

I never knew I had that until I saw it in the mirror. That's not sore or itchy. I think maybe it might be psoriasis.

I was very stressed over the passed few weeks. It came at me from every angle and there's still now slow down in other peoples shit.

Your hair looks fine, but that does look ike psoriasis.

Thank you for the replies. I'm going to go back onto the iron supplements and eat more iron rich foods. I'm not happy about that hairline at the neck. I had blood work at the doctors last year and my iron levels were at 4.

I was very stressed over the past few weeks so I'm not surprised that psoriasis flared up. I was a teenager the last time I had that.

OP- before starting on iron supplements, I'd get your iron levels checked again. Over the counter iron supplements are for maintenance only and won't correct such a severe imbalance. Equally, taking prescribed dose iron, if you are no longer anaemic, builds up and can cause issues. Unlike vitamin C which you excrete in urine- iron builds up and doesn't easily get removed in the same way.

Hopefully they advised you last year that it takes 3mths for red blood cells to replicate, so even if you started correcting severe anaemia now- it takes a while to return to normal. I assume it was your ferritin that was 4? I had an Hb of 80 once with a ferritin of 5. I recall months later that my nails had lines across them where they were growing out much thicker and normal. Hopefully your hair will improve too- but do get your levels checked first.

It was definitely iron that was 4. According to the blood results pdf from my gp the ferratin was 79.

I took iron supplements for a few months after that but a doctor at the hospital asked me to stop them before a procedure and I never went back on them again.

I wasn't consistent with the iron. I had low iron a few yeses ago too but I never took it seriously. I do suspect that it's probably still low.

I will definitely go back to the doctor again this summer and get blood work done again to see them. It will be out on a list of things to do.
