Yellow mucus in the morning (I am asthmatic)

I've been coughing up some pale yellow mucus solely in the mornings on and off for a couple of months now. Every now and then I notice slight wheeze on inhalation. A few times it happened in April /May and then was gone and now since a few days it's 5 mins of cough and a yellow sputum in the morning. I have a adult onset asthma, on Fostair 4 times a day and montelukast. Has anyone had similar experience? I am also 13 week pregnant at the moment, so defo will go visit my gp, just wanted some reassurance from fellow asthmatics that this is unlikely to be something more sinister like bronchiectasis (yes googling is such a bad idea!).

Sorry - I don't know, but DS gets this and he is asthmatic. Not just in the mornings either. I'm watching in case anyone else knows. (He eventually had antibiotics for a chest infection, which did help a bit, but it has come back.)

I’m getting this. I’m not asthmatic. I put it down to hay fever

I've had asthma since I was 7 and I'm now 44. I'm always phlemy in the mornings. And evenings. Pretty much constant occasional asthma cough.

So I'd say it's normal, but yes do go to GP esp as you're pregnant.

I put mine down to the sheer amount of inhaler that's gone into my lungs in the last 37 yrs.

Btw I've no idea what colour mine is, I wouldn't be able to bring it into my mouth even if I tried. It stays in my throat and I swallow it.

Ah yes, sometimes it doesn't come out of the throat and just stays there. When you say constant cough, is it usually without mucus / dry and you get in during the day too? And phlemy only in the mornings? I notice chest tightness increases this week "after" inhaler, I have been on combined inhaler Fostair since last year (that's when I got asthma). They wanted to send me for CT scan to rule out bronchiectasis as I never actually cough or wheeze (except this week) and wanted to rule out more ominous conditions, but my lung specialist said no to a ct scan in pregnancy, so now I need to wait until after delivery. Just worry that these are recurrent infections that can make my lungs worse over time. Of course gp can just give me antibiotics but if they keep recurring it's bad to be on them so frequently...

Did your DS have a sputum test at the gp? My consultant advised to send mucus for sputum culture, just seems like gps don't like doing that, just prescribe antibiotics if it doesn't go away quickly.

Interesting, I thought allergies result in clear mucus, I am allergic too. Do you get this only during allergy season?

Does anyone of you get a slight wheeze on inhalation occasionally too? I thought that being on inhaler 4 times a day like me should result in no cough or wheeze if everything is controlled ok...
