Hayfever bad this year?

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 13/06/2022 09:27

Is anyone's hayfever really bad this year?

Always had it but this year it's so bad, I have to use eyedrops and even then still horrid.

Have to have window open due to fresh air/menopause night sweats...

Any advice?

I take 180 fexofenadine and it don't do much for my eyes but omicron drops and calendula spray work. The spray is cheap from Savers, eye mist.

BlackSwan · 13/06/2022 18:32

Nitgel I'm sure you don't mean omicron drops 😀

Nitgel · 13/06/2022 18:43

Oops Opticrom !

Where is everyone getting the 180g ones from? As only 120 on Amazon as well?

180mg or 240mg is prescribed by GP only. I am monitored as I have a HC and it’s a side effect of it

HandScreen · 13/06/2022 19:15

Yes, it's this bloody no mow May. Bloody hate it.

Jules912 · 13/06/2022 19:29

Yes, usually eye drops and nasal spray get me through but had to resort to loratadine too ( which I'm not sure are actually doing anything but scared to try fexofenadine as the last supposedly non-drowsy one I tried made me drowsy and I need to be able to drive).
My DS doesn't knowingly have hay fever but something triggers his asthma in rural areas.

Ah interesting I spoke to the gp today and she told me to get it over the counter. I asked what I could do if it doesn’t work and is there anything stronger and she said no 🤔

So glad to have found this thread: was prescribed Fexo last year for the first time (hay fever + cat allergy as a child; no issues for decades, last year hay fever off the chart: I couldn’t see). Was just about to attempt to ring surgery to see if they could prescribe again only to see this thread and discover I can buy it OTC. It’s awful without it: itchy throat wakes me up at night and eyes I could cheerfully gouge out with a fork; other OTC stuff doesn’t touch it. I was wondering whether covid / vaxx had anything to do with going from being fine to not being fine. Am also avoiding wine; sadly does appear to make a difference for me. ☹️

I've found keeping my beconase in the fridge and glasses firmly on ✨️everywhere✨️ have helped. My hayfevers usually subsided by now BUT not this year!!! I've been sneezing, itching and all sorts since late February 😭 I hate it here.

@GonnaGetGoingReturns it took me a few days of taking fexofenadine once a day before I noticed an improvement in symptoms. I have to say it's not much of an improvement though. I haven't suffered with hayfever in about 9 years until now. I had it from childhood until approx my mid 20s then it just stopped. I'd forgotten how bad it could be.

I could have written this! I had hayfever really badly all through my childhood and twenties and it didn’t improve until I had kids. Roll on 18 years, this year, and the last two days it’s like I’ve lost 30 years but not in a good way!!!

First time ever I’m using a nasal spray, plus one a day tab but nothing seems to be touching it.

StrawberryFizz27 · 13/06/2022 19:50

Dimister nasal scary is helping me. I'm just getting over Covid which has been like the flu and my nose is a right state. I've got a coldsore right on the side!

sallydoodlecat · 13/06/2022 20:07

Apparently the Met office have said there's a "potent pollen" right now. I've been suffering so badly the last few days. I had got very cocky as I thought fexofenadine was helping. Then it hit me. Nothing is working. My husband has just ordered me something which is supposed to flush out my nose. On the recommendation of a friend. I'm literally trying anything right now. Was considering paying to have the hay fever injection privately but been reading about harmful side effects and how the NHS doesn't recommend it. I hate the summer and seeing everyone else loving this weather and me hating it and just wanting to scream. Wouldn't even go out in the garden to play with my kids earlier as I'm just streaming. Sympathies to everyone. It's shit

Luckypoppy · 13/06/2022 20:10

I bought 180 at an online chemist.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 14/06/2022 14:51

UPDATE: the feno is kicking in.

I still feel shitty (thanks, plantar fascitis in one foot and lower back pain to rid me of any sleep!) but not too bad.

It is the worst hayfever ever but my DB who was a chronic asthmatic and works outdoors at the moment doesn't appear to be that affected, he says.

Seems to be working better for me too, it’s on club card price at Tesco’s apparently so I’m getting it from there next time as I paid quite a bit for mine

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 15/06/2022 09:51

@BiscoffSundae - will look out for this in Tescos. I got it at Boots and paid just under/over £5 and think my Boots points covered it.

I’m already taking fexofenadine. Had a piriton and becolieve spray at 5am this morning. My nose is basically a tap at the moment and nothing is helping!

Gherkingreen · 15/06/2022 10:50

My poor DS is really suffering this year and is mid GCSEs so it's all a bit rotten. Definitely started later for him but in recent weeks has been awful - streaming, sore throat, eyes swollen, itchy ears, the lot.
He's on fexofenadine and has nasal spray and eye drops but nothing is giving him all-day relief.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 15/06/2022 11:40

@Gherkingreen - your poor son. My eyes aren't as bad as when I was younger but my nose has been dripping on and off, struggling to breathe, and a nasty headache. Definitely hayfever though the tablets appear to have helped some, plus Vaseline in nose, nasal spray and eye drops. Oh and keeping indoors (WFH a godsend).

OP posts:
NewNormalLife · 15/06/2022 11:51

I always get it pretty bad but last night was q level I haven't experienced since I was a teenager trying to take my exams.

I use 180mg fexofenadine usually but also need Pirinase nasal spray. no other nasal spray works. sunglasses, vaseline on the end of the nose too and eye drops when the itchy becomes unbearable, although last night mine weren't itchy just streaming

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 15/06/2022 13:38

UPDATE: Just did a 15 minute run in the heat round the park and besides a scratchy throat it's not too bad!

OP posts:
lollipoprainbow · 15/06/2022 19:09

I've just done an lft test and feel just like I did when I had Covid earlier in the year! Terrible sneezing and streaming eyes and nose plus sore throat from all the sneezing. No cough though.
