..what the symptoms of a too tight foreskin might be ? would it hurt/be red/swollen ?

OP posts:
ZippiBabes · 14/01/2008 18:32

i only had one

too

never occurred to me to concern myself with his willy

ditto girls managed to never think of asking after their bits either

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 14/01/2008 18:34

I wasn't trying to do that at all, sorry. Just trying to make you see that I don't think you need to be quite so thorough. I didn't know what was normal and what was not with my first boy.. and he ended up needing a circumscision for a too-tight fore skin, but trust me, it was obvious there was a problem.

ZippiBabes · 14/01/2008 18:35

is he complaining if so take him to the gp

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/01/2008 18:36

I think I'm just feeling anxious anyway and I get things into my head where I feel I have to make sure everythings absolutely ok,that I've done my best. I'm certainly not trying to give my son a complex.

OP posts:
Beetroot · 14/01/2008 18:36

what are his symptoms?

Tamum · 14/01/2008 18:37

I think if it looks fine, it probably is. Can't say I have looked at ds's much since he was a toddler, but I really wouldn't worry if he's not complaining.

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/01/2008 18:42

no symptoms actually - I just thought perhaps it looked a little tight in the bath when he was cleaning it - he will say it's sore sometimes but he tends to pick up on suggestion -he'll say it's sore because I've asked and he then thinks it might be,iyswim...but it loks fine, no redness or swelling...I think I'm in a pickle about this weeing thing and imagining all sorts (the weeing thing is his inability to get the drops of wee off before pulling up his pants)

OP posts:
ZippiBabes · 14/01/2008 18:44

probably no need to worry then..no idea about shaking drops off

think all these things were outside my interest tbh

best not to look for anxieties

StillWaters · 14/01/2008 18:44

That what little boys pants are for to absorb the wee drops.

StillWaters · 14/01/2008 18:48

And big boys pants actually

Seriously should boys wipe after weeing?? I'm feeling very remiss and slovenly.

Mind you i don't even get them to wash their hands before a meal so I'm obviusly not overly hygiene conscious, which I tell myself is a good thing again.

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/01/2008 18:49

ok, points taken - will chill a bit . Thanks anyway

StillWaters · 14/01/2008 18:56

Although I am generally slovely maryAnn, so drops of urine don't overly worry me, I am quite neurotic about their haelth and my DS1 also has tight forskin issues!

I'm encouraging him to play aroubd a bit more (he's strengely uninterested in his willy) and have no qualms abot having agood look myself! He's 8.

BTW I had a good look at your friends website you linked to the other day (the clothes) she had some great ideas and has inspired me to buy some bright coloured tights!! I even have recommended it to some frineds!

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/01/2008 19:00

aww- she'll be very pleased ! she helped me choose a dress for a party by sending me loads of good ideas !

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 14/01/2008 19:02

btw drops of urine every time make a lot of drops by the end of the day - don't want him smelling like an old bloke

OP posts:
StillWaters · 14/01/2008 19:09

No the slightest whiff can get you stuck with a derogatory nickname for life!

gives up already!

Yes do tell her, I kept her in mind when I went shopping and tried to more adventurous!

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/01/2008 19:11

Mind you,my dress was/is black - so she hasn't cured me of colour/pattern fear !

StillWaters · 14/01/2008 19:20

Incidently, tales of the city are some of my favourite books ever.

I think the only books I've reread several times since being an adult.

My adult equivalent of Malory Towers! (I mean this in a good way, Enid Blyton intriduced me to the love of reading)

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/01/2008 22:22

yes, I think they're probably the only books I've read several times - love them !

mary - my ds had an operation for a 'tagged frenulum ' last week
his will was fine but we could not draw the foreskin back
first took him to docs at 11 ish and kept getting sent away - finally operated last week and all seems well so far

could this be the issue here?

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 15/01/2008 14:50

just read a bit more and tbh it sounds very very similar..

ds was never sore and it was just about the time i thought maybe i should teach him to draw back and clean - that we realised he couldn't

tbh i would not encourage it if it is sore beacsue we were told a slight tear can casue adhesions which make it worse

MaryAnnSingleton · 15/01/2008 16:15

hi Paula -thanks for that info - have just been to the doctor who said it looked fine to him, the foreskin is a little tight but nothing to worry about and should loosen as he gets older -he can try stretching it a bit in the bath but no need to do anything else. He is taking a wee sample in case of urine infection and reckons that any extra leakage might be the speedy nature of a boy's weeing proceedure and any little drops that get caught in end of the skin, so a good dabbing with loo paper will help. Hope your ds is ok byw.

DaDaDa · 15/01/2008 16:25

Does anyone know at what age you should start washing under the foreskin?

My parents were very uninformative with me about this. So I disagree that it's weird to talk about any potential problems particularly if it might avoid an unnecessary circ/frenuloplasty as an adult.

MaryAnnSingleton · 15/01/2008 16:52

not sure what age - and thanks for not thinking me weird !
