Every night when I go to sleep, I wake up 20 minutes later. It then takes me about another hour to get back to sleep (and then I'll sleep all night).

This is new for me. It's been happening every night for about a month now.

I go to bed at different times usually if it makes a difference.

Do you sleep on your side or back?
When you wake up do you turn over or change sleeping position to get to sleep?
Have you put on any weight recently?

I definitely snore more on my left side, but this is also the side I find easiest to fall asleep on. I sometimes wake myself up aware that I have 'snorted/snored' then I sleepily turn over and sleep solidly on my other side.
It also reduced when I lost about half a stone.

Same with me. I wake up after a short while and then struggle to get back to sleep. I'm guessing it's due to perimenopause.

alpenguin · 09/06/2022 18:45

For me it’s usually 30-40mg and I believe I’ve been asleep for hours until I check the time. It always feels like I’ve had a good quality long sleep. I think it’s probably perimenopause for me.

I wish I had a solution but sadly I just live with it and hope it goes away soon

Are you my 10 month old baby?

maltravers · 09/06/2022 19:51

I had this. Hrt sorted it out I’m glad to say.

I find if I fall asleep on my right side, I wake up fairly soon after falling and find it hard to fall back to sleep. However if I fall asleep on my my left side I tend to fall asleep well and turn over to my right side mid sleep (without waking) and still sleep well. It has happened to me in hotels/being guests in other people houses etc. Per my parents I was like that as a toddler onwards.

Thanks everyone.

I don't think it's menopause as I'm in my 30s and have regular periods.

I have put on about 15 pounds over the past few months, so the weight gain explanation makes sense.

Try taking Magnesium supplements, it's essential for good sleep.

🤣 was just thinking this too.

Although, sorry OP not helpful to you. Hope it gets sorted, I wonder if white noise and swaddling might do the trick?

I find that if I have a ten minute nap mid afternoon I sleep better at night, if I don’t I often wake up after ten minutes my body seems to think it’s just a nap.
