Husband lost 9lb since last Tuesday

So my husband started off with a virus type thing last Tuesday had really sore aching lower back, and fever. He then proceeded to have diarrhea up to 6 times a day, this is still ongoing but not as many times as 6 times a day.

He has lost 9lb in weight due to not eating because after everything he eats, it just comes out the other end. He is noticeably slimmer, and says he just has no energy, should this warrant a call to the GP?

Yes talk to your GP.

I had gastro enteritis a while back, I take a lot of medication which I could not keep down and I was passing green liquid.

I was given an antiemetic to dissolve between my gum and cheek.

OP I have been just as you describe for the past 10 days. Before that I had pain and was going multiple times a day, but no diarrhoea. It then suddenly switched to explosive diarrhoea- I can’t hold anything in. I contacted my GP and I’ve been referred for bloods and a stool sample. Please do call your GP.

He needs to call the GP, why do men not take action for their own health?

The first sign of UTIs in men can be fever, sickness etc. Often they don’t have the burning we tend to associate with them.

However, he needs to see a GP today as this is very much not normal and well over half a stone in less than a week is worrying.

For anyone who doesn’t like dioralyte or can’t get it for any reason you can make up a solution of a pint of cooled previously boiled water, a teaspoon of salt and a teaspoon of sugar. Keep it in the fridge and use as you would dioralyte. Sip it, don’t guzzle it. He’ll absorb the fluid better this way .
Boiled chicken and plain boiled rice when he’s up to eating again and a banana will help him.

Dioralyte is vile IMO, just water for now.

There's oldish adage that dioralyte (or similar) tastes foul if you don't really need it, but if you do its the best thing in the world!!

I'd definitely book a GP appointment, OP. He should be better than this after a week.
