Extremely itchy lumps!

BooseysMom · 06/06/2022 07:36

I have developed these annoying lumps which itch like hell. There are 8 on one ankle and one on the other. My DF has exactly the same so could have caught it from him when I went to his flat. They won't respond to bite cream and woke me up with the itchiness. DF says ring worm. They look like bites though. Any ideas?

Thanks

Bites. Does DF have pets?

BemoreDerek · 06/06/2022 07:48

Doesn't look like ringworm to me (my dog has it currently so I've been looking at lots of pictures of how it presents in humans) but does look like every flea bite I've ever had. They are intensely itchy, much more so than gnat/mosquito bites ime so that would fit too. Any pets anywhere you've been recently?

gamerchick · 06/06/2022 07:50

Flea bites. You can bring fleas into the house but if there are no pets you get bitten to death more than usual.

PassThePringles · 06/06/2022 07:52

Maybe heat lumps? If not flea bites anyway. Try rubbing shaving foam on them, if they're heat lumps, it'll stop the itch :)

dementedpixie · 06/06/2022 07:54

Typical place for flea bites

dementedpixie · 06/06/2022 07:55

And definitely not ringworm as that's fungal and forms in a ring with clear skin in the middle

yes he has a cat and he says it hasn't been itching lately so it isn't that but I know he doesn't treat it for fleas any more.

I went away with work and came home with some horrible spots. I thought it was cat flea bites but no sign of them at all on the cats and no one else in the house got them.

They were unbelievably itchy and spread up my legs.

I went to see doctor who was also fairly bemused as to what exactly they were but prescribed permethrin cream and it cleared them up.

BrylcreamBeret · 06/06/2022 08:32

That looks like flea bites. Welcome to the inner circle of itchy hell, don't give yourself a blister.

This sounds like scabies. It could be that (which would not be linked to the cat). Or flea bites (which would). You need to comb the cat, or check where it sleeps for fleas.

Flea bites

The cat needs to be treated and the house needs spraying with Indorex spray, you can buy it on Amazon.

Some lessons have to be learned the hard way.

Your DP needs to be treating the cat monthly whether it scratches or not. Fleas are a nightmare to get rid of if they infest the house. You need to get some flea treatment for both the house and the cat, and possibly your house too as they can come in on your clothes etc. Advantage is the one we use on our cats, it’s been really brilliant, it’s available on websites like viovet etc.

it's my dad's cat and the flat is in a state. He never cleans it properly or treats the cat for fleas

Not ring worm, it’s usually a spot with ring around it, looks like flea bites I get when going abroad, the buggers like ankles and arms. Sounds like DF place needs a deep clean and cats need treatment, I gave mine Frontline, seemed to keep them away.

Looks like scabies to me

zafferana · 06/06/2022 10:38

Definitely flea bites and they itch like hell! Take an antihistamine, treat the cat for fleas and also treat the carpets and soft furnishings.

Even more likely to be fleas then. Needs treating at source. Poor cat :(

Dear me OP. It is fleas then. The cats may also have quite sore skin and need treating. As does his house!

AGreatUsername · 06/06/2022 21:38

Oops my bad, sorry, misread.

Fleas can be really miserable for a cat, please convince him to treat the cat (or do it yourself). Hope you can get through to him.

That's ok! My Dad is clueless. He's 85 and thinks because the cat never scratches itself it doesn't need treating. Same with worming. I've given up trying to help him and clean the flat. He won't pay for treatment for the cat and won't pay for a cleaner. I give up!

DorritLittle · 08/06/2022 08:00

You can buy treatment for the cat yourself OP. He doesn't need to know. You can get some to put in their food. Cats with fleas can be miserably itchy but they won't let on. Flea treatment will also stop them getting ticks.

BooseysMom · 08/06/2022 19:54

@DorritLittle Good idea but he won't pay me back and I'm on a tight budget!
