At what point would you worry about back ache

I’ve had lower back ache now for about 2 months. Initially thought I’d pulled a muscle at the gym. I went to the doctors and they said they thought pulled muscle and to see how it goes. The pain is a dull ache and hurts more if I move or lean in a certain position. It went okay for a couple of days and then last week I woke in agony again, as if I’d slept funny. I’ve had a spine X-ray which picked up a mild scoliosis but gp said that shouldn’t cause pain. I’m starting to worry now. Any idea what it could be or could it just be a pulled muscle, the pain does coincide when I was doing some new weights in the gym and did start a day or so after

If you get pins and needles or a change in sensation below your lower back. Or can't control your bladder/bowels.

@WooNoodle I don’t have any of what you described, it does just seem to be one place in my lower left back

Try getting a sports massage, or see a chiropractor

WooNoodle · 05/06/2022 22:08

It could absolutely be a pulled muscle.

Have you been to an osteopath? Could be sacroiliac joint, sciatica, ligament issue, etc.

Terriblecreature · 05/06/2022 22:10

I feel like I could have written this post to be honest. I have had the exact same thing and have been thinking it's a pulled muscle. I do suffer terribly from constipation and now starting to think it's linked but going to go to the GP asap as yesterday I could barely stand straight the pain was that bad. Hope you manage to get to the bottom of it x

You need to see a physio or some sort of back specialist!
Yes it could still be a pulled muscle. You need to treat the pulled muscle.

nomistake · 05/06/2022 22:14

A GP wouldn't be able to do much about backache. You need to see an osteopath

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 05/06/2022 22:15

How old are you?

Any constipation?

Sounds like your QL muscle, it's a really deep muscle, and when it's in spasm it pulls the pelvis up slightly. It's a really deep pain but without a good physio easing it off you may not get relief.

You could look for QL release methods on YouTube, they won't do any harm to other muscle groups and are gentle. Involves laying flat and shifting weight sideways in a deep stretch.

Your physio should be able to release with a pushing and rocking motion easing your hip down and 2-3 sessions should release it fully.

In the meantime stretch and move, if you can and avoid chiropractors etc, start with a good degree qualified sports physio.

Forgot to say one key way of knowing is to see if you have one leg slightly longer than the other when laying down! It maybe cm different but that will show the pelvic shift 👍

@nomistake , 'a GP couldn't do much about backache' .. backache can be a symptom
of all sorts of things, some serious.
