Chickenpox child (age 4.5) can I give Calpol AND Piriton at the same time?

she's got a moderate case, with the blisters mostly on her trunk and back.

no fever as yet (the rash appeared on Thursday evening).

but she's NOT able to sleep AT ALL. and all the chemists in the nearest town were closed on Sunday.

i've been giving her 2.5mL of Pirition, the recommended dosage, but she's still complaining of pain as the blisters emerge.

HELP! this poor bairn is shattered!

Yes, calpol fine, but probably not medised. And you can give ibuprofen at the same time too, if necessary, or give it half way between calpol doses, iyswim.

HOpe she feels better soon.

DD is asthmatic and uses piriton as control. We use paracetamol on top and on last big fever hosp also gave ibuproen aswell.

R u using that lotion stuff on her aswell, supposed to help with some of the pain and itching? (calomine isnt it??)

You can get aqueous cream with calamine in - much less messy than the traditional calamine lotion. Also the porridge oats in an old tights leg, in the bath - squeeze out over her, v soothing.

am using Eurax.

some of the blisters have started to scab over.

but she's got plenty more where that came from!

poor soul!

Hope it all clears up soon. WHen DD had it last summer, once the first ones started to scab over, she didn't seem to get more at the same rate as when they first came out - hope that's the case for your DD, expat.

thanks!

guess dd2's next. she's 2.

Yes - probably. Best stock up on all the lotions and potions. Look on it as an excuse to sit and watch TV all day without feeling guilty.

i was up ALL NIGHT with her, too.

went for a hike and then slept till around 3PM!

i wish she could get some sleep.

Chickenpox is miserable for everyone concerned, so uncomfy. I think new spots come out for about five days then it all starts calming down, ready for the next child to get it.....

Expat, if your dd isn't too ill in herself, temp etc, you could try taking her for a wee walk outdoors. The cool air is balm to the spots. Even a turn round the garden can help and give her a change of scene, too.
