Vaginitis? What should I do in Greece?

I am in holiday in Greece and have developed what I think is vaginitis. I have no idea what it will cost to see a doctor and the chemist is closed!
Please help me know what to ask for at the chemist in another town or whether I should go to the doctor.

Symptoms…

Burning feeling internally
Some external itching
tender lower abdomen

I used a thrush pessary to see if it was thrush but it has made no difference.

I then used replens gel internally to try and ease it and the applicator had some blood on it after use.

I don’t use soap or scented products, just water. I wonder if using bleached toilet paper had caused it so trying to avoid that too!

Obviously sitting in a wet swimsuit isn’t helpful. Probably swimming in a pool isn’t either. This is ruining my holiday.

I don’t know whether to go to the doctor ( no idea what it will cost now we aren’t in the EU) or ask for something at the chemist.
Please help!!

Have you had sex recently OP ?

Are you sure it's vaginitis ?

It sounds quite a lot like it might be herpes to be honest .

sorry I doubt that's what you want to hear

whereabouts are you in Greece ? either way the best place to go is a sexual health clinic as they will be able to tell you for sure

What until the pharmacist is open again, they are fantastic and can even prescribe antibiotics if necessary ( unless things have changed in the last few years)

Ime a bad case of thrush burns like hell and can bleed so don't discount thrush. Have you had unprotected sex?

Pharmacists seem to have much more power over there. I was there at Easter and got a scratch on my eye - sand under a contact lense. When that has happened in the U.K. pharmacist won’t let me purchase the antibacterial eye drops for £10-15 I always have to go to optician/doctor first and get a prescription. In Greece the pharmacist gave me both the eyedrops and ointment within a few mins md only cost be 8 eu4ros!

No, haven’t had sex in a while so it’s not anything sexually transmitted. I am prone to thrush but I think it would have improved after the pessary.
The symptoms sound like vaginitis .
Antibiotics make me quite ill bit if I have to take them I will.
Forgot to mention constantly peeing. I’m paranoid about getting a UTI as I am also prone to them but I don’t think it’s that.
I am post menopausal.

Sounds more like cystitis. Get some over the counter powders or try bicarb in water.

Constant peeing sounds like a UTI. See the pharmacist, drink loads of water in the mean time and take pain killers. Hope you feel better soon .

Sounds like cystitis.
Try a pharmacist first.
If you have to see a doctor your travel insurance will cover it.
Do you have your GHIC? They allow you to use a countries health service for the same cost as locals.

If you are post menopausal are you using topical oestrogen or pesssries? You do need this to stop these kind of symptoms. You should drink lots of water until you can find a clinic or pharmacy to advise and test your urine. Your travel insurance should cover the cost. I had similar experience and thought it was a uti, but it was vaginal atrophy and it was exactly what you are describing.
