Skin issues, any ideas??

StephP47 · 29/05/2022 16:05

I've had ongoing hives/rashes for around 4 months now, my skins very itchy day and night, keeps me awake often with the constant itching.

Doctor diagnosed as urticaria, been prescribed a cream for skin infection, I'm on 2 antihistamine a day, been prescribed epaderm which I use 2-3 x a day. Also now using a steroid cream. Nothing has really helped much with the rashes. I have had good and bad days but they are particularly bad at the moment.

My sons now been getting itchy and rashes, he's recently stayed with his dad who has now complained of itchiness (different household).

It's driving me insane. I've tried a different washing powder, I bought a spray for bugs and used it everywhere on my bed and mattress etc.

Anyone experienced a similar rash..what do you think could he causing it?

Has your doctor referred you to a dermatologist

StephP47 · 29/05/2022 16:12

He sent an email to specialist waiting to hear back face to face is silly wait at the moment.

I'm not a doctor but that looks nothing like urticaria to me. Sorry I don't know what it is but it looks absolutely nothing like urticaria that DS gets regularly.

Penguintears · 29/05/2022 16:17

Could be scabies? www.nhs.uk/conditions/scabies/

Can you make an appointment with a pharmacist? They can be good at things like this.

MarmaladeLime · 29/05/2022 16:19

Looks painful. I too would try a pharmacist.

StephP47 · 29/05/2022 16:19

I know I do get hives with this rash but I agree when looking online doesn't look like urticaria as the primary rash

If your ds and his dad have it, maybe scabies like pp suggests

Lineala · 29/05/2022 16:26

Flea bites but fleas are easy to spot? My son had scabies many years ago, I would try treating for that first, be sure to wash bedding on a 60 at the same time.

StephP47 · 29/05/2022 16:49

Think you might be right with the scabies actually, had a good read. Easy to get a cream so might pop to pharmacist tomorrow and give it a go and follow the advice and see if it clears while I wait for referral to come back. Thanks!

If it is scabies the whole family will need treatment and you will be doing a lot of hot wash laundry. The itch can last after the cream.

Penguintears · 29/05/2022 20:23

Do update OP. I have to say it is worrying if a random stranger on the Internet can diagnose a rash via Google more accurately than a GP!

purplesequins · 29/05/2022 20:37

scabies tend to be around fingers/toes where hard skin meets soft skin.
it's insanely itchy and needs a tablet as well as a cream as the mites burrow into the skin and are heard to reach with topical treatments.

impetigo? do the spots blister sometimes?

good hygiene is a goo idea. boil wash towels, bedding, underwear.
do not share towels.
wear socks and change them regularly.

MrOllivander · 29/05/2022 20:42

Definitely doesn't look like hives
This is my urticaria which the dermatologist says is very classic hives

again on scabies.
you can see the burrows under the skin.
look closely where it's especially itchy if you can see them.

Penguintears · 31/05/2022 21:43

Any update OP? Did you see a pharmacist?

StephP47 · 01/06/2022 07:34

Yes so basicslly, pharmacist agreed it very much looked like scabies and then spoke to doctor aswell and he said scabies before I even mentioned it he mentioned he'd had a few cases of it recently. Been on a run around to try get a prescription he sent me no stock but in the end just used the over the counter stuff pemethrin last night on me and my son and we both slept like babies no itching. I know it won't be an instant fix but so relieved to know what it is. Been doing lots of hot washing and will be doing lots of cleaning today, will do a second treatment next week as it says and hopefully I'll be rid of this within a few weeks!!

That is really bad from your dr, its so contagious and you have had to put up with it for 4 months.
