I’ve found a lump in my breast

Found a lump in my breast yesterday in the area between my armpit and breast. I thought it was just my imagination, had another feel today and it’s still there got my husband to confirm it. I’m going to phone the Gp on Monday and get myself sorted but looking for a handhold really. I’m only 23 and recently stopped contraceptives so hoping my age will work in my favour and that it’s potentially hormone related

You're completely right to get it checked but the vast majority of lumps turn out to be harmless. I had a few lumps in my 20's and 30's that were cysts.

I’ve had mastitis before without being pregnant, or being pregnant before! I was a teenager and my mum was beside herself, convinced I was pregnant.

Fingers crossed for you OP that it’s just something like a cyst or a blocked duct

The lump does hurt when touched so I’m hoping it’s a cyst or something instead of it being something more serious. Still feeling really worried about it though

The odds are very much on your side OP, as is the sensitivity to touch, I think. But you absolutely must get this sorted as I am very glad you are doing that. Don’t let anyone dismiss you because of your age! Best wishes

OP I hope you are able to get things checked out soon- I understand the worry.
I had a lump investigated and the waiting time was unacceptable.
I phoned BUPA ( I am not a member) and was given an appointment for the next day at their one stop breast clinic.
It was a one off fee - around £360 if I remember- I had an ultrasound, mammogram, examination and consultation- I was given the results immediately- thankfully all clear.
If you don't want to wait and can afford it it can save weeks of worry.

There was no GP appointments left not even emergency or out of hours so more panicking waiting around to be seen

Don’t panic. Statistics are very much with you, that this is something harmless. But don’t let it go.

Hiw can you calm yourself? Paradoxically, in the extremely unlikely event that this is cancer, preventing massive surges of stress hormones and getting lots of pleasant exercise are two of the ways you can help yourself. The exercise also helps with stress. Laughter is also good.

I am very well aware that this is easier said than done!! Try to think of it as starting now to give yourself every break until things are resolved.

OP if you can't get a gp appointment ring 111 and ask what they advise or if they can make you an appointment. (I understand the worry and you shouldn't be made to wait too long for an appointment.)

Hi @Jasminethedogsmum how are you doing?

I found a lump last week and have been to see my Dr, waiting for an ultrasound referral. I'm 37. The Dr was really reassuring and said it doesn't feel like a worrying lump (it's smooth, moves freely etc), but the ultrasound is to confirm all's ok.

Please don't worry, the chances of it being something sinister are really slim, as others have said it's likely a cyst.

Hope you get seen soon.

Had a Gp appointment and they think it’s a fibrocystic changes but getting sent to breast clinic for an ultrasound just in case
