Swallowed metal button

Hi,
a little boy I baby sit (4) swallowed a metal button two days ago. His dad took him to a and e and it was seen on X-ray in stomach. So not choking. However, I looked after him today and he hasn’t been eating or drinking and he’s usually a big eater. He even refused chocolate buttons ( his favourite). He wasn’t complaining of tummy ache. He hasn’t passed it yet. He didn’t do a poo at all whilst with me today. His parents don’t seem worried- but I am. Should they take him to a and e again? I am so worried about him. Can a button ( about size of ten pence piece) cause an intestinal blockage?

P.s didn’t swallow the button whilst with me- but I was told about it and saw the matching buttons left on the coat

My son swallowed a £1 coin when he was about 5. He had an X-ray to check it wasn’t too far up in the food pipe. If it’s in his stomach they said it’s fine and will work it’s way out. Neither he nor I were aware when it came out again!! This was several years ago. So the not eating may be totally unrelated.

I swallowed a penny at that age. I was fine. I don't remember passing it.

I imagine it's put him off other button shaped food though.

The advice would have been to check the poo until it emerges, but if the child became unwell, not eating and tummy pain, come back as it can cause a blockage in rare cases.

DS swallowed a 10p coin and passed it fine. I think it's most likely to get stuck before it enters the stomach which is why the doctors aren't concerned if they can see it's in the stomach. Maybe the little boy is feeling anxious about it. Explains not wanting the chocolate buttons!
