What do you do if you are long sighted and short sighted?

I know vari focals exist but apparently I'm not a good candidate for them as my eyes really struggle to adjust (I have a major squint).

At the moment I carry around 2 pairs of glasses everywhere but it's a faff!

What do people with this do? I basically have a sweet spot about 2 foot away from me and that's it Grin

I was both long sighted and short sighted with presbyopia (I'm 54) and astigmatism to boot so the full house!

I used monofocal contact lenses, one eye for near and one for far and four different pairs of glasses which was a massive pain.

I had been thinking about it for years but finally three weeks ago I had lens replacement surgery with multifocal lens implants. I'm very happy with the result. No more glasses or contact lenses, ever.

It's not perfect. I can read small text but it is still slightly blurred. The result may still improve but even if it doesn't I'm happy with how it turned out.

Another big plus is I will never get cataract.

I have very similar sight and am considering a similar treatment.
Can I ask, where did you have it done? What was the recovery like? Do you have dry eyes at all? Thanks

I have two pairs one I wear all the time and one for reading. I have to keep the ones I wear all the time close by though because if I have the reading specs on and don't know where my others are I can't see well enough to find them.
True story dd lost her specs after taking them off for bed, she couldn't find them because she can't see without hers, I couldn't find them because I can't see well enough even with specs to find them so I had to ask my adult son to drive over to find dd's specs for us. Grin

@reegee I live in Germany and had it done at EuroEyes. The surgery is the same procedure everywhere. I'm sure there are lots of similar clinics in the UK.

The cost was 7000 euros but I'm very fortunate that it was paid by my private health insurance.

The recovery has been fine so far. My eyes felt slightly scratchy on and off for the first week or so due to the incision. It felt a bit like I'd been wearing contact lenses all day and wanted to take them out but the discomfort was really minor.

It's three weeks post op now and the incision has healed up so the scratchy feeling is gone.

I already had dryish eyes prior to the operation. I've used eye drops at night for years. I can honestly say the surgery has not made the dryness any worse.
