Potential hypothyroidism and pregnant

I've been feeling horrific for weeks - months in fact.

Yesterday some routine bloods looking at my iron as it's dropping despite b12 and ferritin being fine - thyroid was checked and the midwife has called to say that I've got low T4 and they're going to get a Dr to look.

GP has also observed results and secretary has called to make appt for repeat thyroid tests in 3 months time.

I'm currently 33 weeks pregnant and have had all the symptoms of hypothyroidism since I had covid last summer. Just assumed it was that. Although it's got a lot worse in pregnancy.

Is there any thing I should do / ask / push for?

I've got private cover through DP work if that helps.

Yes you need a referral to endocrinology… a full thyroid check blood test -including thyroid antibodies is possible. It’s a very common condition which is manageable with the right expertise. Push for an endo referral and see what that say.

Didn’t want to read and Run. I was born without a thyroid so have been dealing with hypothyroidism my whole life. It presents a whole array of symptoms which are often linked with many different illnesses.
when I was pregnant the first time, I managed to maintain good t4 levels, when I was pregnant with dd the went to a new time low and I had to raise my medication a fair but, was stuck on it for 4 years till they randomly changed.
you will defo have to have a full work up.

Be sure to consult with your doctor, he may refer you to an endocrinologist. Thyroid issues are not uncommon during pregnancy, and it's normal for hormone levels to fluctuate. When it comes to thyroid dysfunction during pregnancy and even postpartum thyroiditis, prevention, treatment, and cure are the common goals.
