Steroid injections and physio or surgery

Please share your stories about your meniscus tear and which route you went down and what success you had...

@YellowMonday if it wasn't for my children I'd happily continue like I am now but I can't play with them the way I'd want to as I can't get on the floor and crawl around or run around in the garden. I'm really pleased you're seeing progress

How long ago did you injure it @tigertummy

tigertummy · 14/06/2022 12:40

@Ivedonethisthreetimealready 5 months ago now

I had physio and steroids but still had problems so had the surgery after about 9 months. Was back up and around fairly quickly and absolutely no problems since.

FTMworrier · 14/06/2022 12:54

Reading some of these stories I had a lucky escape. 6-8 weeks of rest from exercise and I was back on my feet with a return to running program. No issues since!
I hope you get sorted 🤞🏻

@2Hooves if you don't mind me asking how old are you? How long was your recovery?

@tigertummy it was a couple of years ago so I think about 35. Recovery was quick, I think within about 2/3 weeks I was pretty much back to normal - certainly in less pain than I was before. I was an unfit and overweight too as I'd had 2 months initially in plaster.

tigertummy · 14/06/2022 19:42

@2Hooves thank you! And now are you able to do normal things? Go for a run? Get up and down from the floor?

Physio- useless.
Surgery then physio wonderful.

Took a year to get the full benefit and three years on I still do the exercises four times a week. I know when I haven't done them.

It's about 90% normal now and I'm happy with that. I wear a support for dancing though. I do get the odd bad day. I'm mid 50s and tore it dancing. I do ballroom and latin twice a week.

Sunnytwobridges · 15/06/2022 02:22

@tigertummy Nope it doesn’t hurt but it does feel funny while I’m straightening it.

tigertummy · 15/06/2022 13:21

Thanks everyone!

I have tears in both knees- one worse than the other and also arthritis. Have done physio and exercises religiously for 6 months, on an exercise bike everyday and swim twice a week- also lost weight. No real improvement so went for hydrocortisone these were miraculous for a short while but now back to square one and I spend most days trying to avoid pain. Going to try hyaralonic acid injections next. I am 57 and fed up!
