Vitamin d deficiency

Hi,
I had some blood tests last week as I am constantly exhausted, I just had a text from the doctor saying my vitamin d levels are low and to buy some 25mcg/1000iu vitamin d tablets over the counter and go back in 4 weeks for a repeat blood test…. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this and how long it took to get your levels back up?? The tiredness is ridiculous and I want to feel like a normal person again!!
unfortunately I work inside all day but I am literally outside all weekend hoping the sun will fix me also!

thank you ☺️

Most people have a vitamin D deficit, so don't worry too much unless you have ostheoporosis or are past menopause. Have you had your ferritin levels checked? You should. Mine was at 7 and I was basically dragging myself.

You are aware that vitamin D deficiency - and it doesn't have to be severe - can lead to fracture of small bones? Pain? Fatigue? Inability to fight infections? And many more things?

So the OP is right to worry if she is feeling crap.

@RedWingBoots Unfortunately I have to be way more aware than most as my mother has severe ostheoporosis (she has to take Aclasta which is basically used for people with cancer given the severity of her condition).
The thing is I was feeling like her for ages (also had a vitamin D deficiency which the doctor said is actually normal but I took multivitamins anyway and they did zilch) and it was only when I saw an endocronologist (who bloody LISTENED!!) that I found out that my ferritin level was down to 7 when it should have been about 80. So, from my experience (which is longer than it should have been because the doctor(s) couldn't see past my weight) she should also check her ferritin level. It's a simple blood test and the OP can ask for it when she sees her GP. There's no harm in asking for the ferritin test and the OP has to be her own advocate.

I had mine checked last year. I had previously been taking 1500 a day for a year.
My level was borderline.
You need a lot more than that and for a long time.

I have 2 stress fractures in my shin and that was caused by weakened bones due to a long term vit d deficiency. I was also poorly constantly for years and diagnosed with cfs which left me almost bedbound for 5 years. All of this improved massively when I had my vitamin d levels sorted out. (I asked my gp multiple times and she refused to test me...)

My mother took vitamin D tablets for ages which did zilch and then she started taking these drops but her levels were still low. Now she's down to Aclasta (takes it once a year in hospital) and she takes these vitamin D tablets with a concentration of sth like 22400 (it's called Egostar and I'm not sure it's available over there).
She's had quite a few fractures too and the last time she fell (big time) she broke her ribs. Those should have taken about 3 months to heal properly but took almost year. The thing is she was a nurse she'd have regular checkups but effing Ostheoporosis still showed unannounced and f*cking invited, so woman have every right to be worried about their vitamin D levels.
When I started feeling like the OP my vitamin D levels were lower than "normal" but vitamin D pills didn't change how felt tbh. I still felt like crap every day, all day. Took forever to figure out my real problem.
I feel like men just have it easy, don't they? I feel like they get taken seriously no matter what they say, whereas with women it's always "eat better, lose the extra weight, eat more veggies and ALL will ok" and they wink like they're saying lay off the nutella and you'll be skinny and perfect.
