Squamous cell carcinoma

I’ve had a weird thing on my hand for years, flares up, fades a bit, oozes, crusts over, etc. I thought it was a bug bite initially but guess a bit odd 7 years on it’s still there.

then a tiktok video came up on my feed with pictures of what looks like my spot. Every thing they said about it is right for me. Went to the GP today and she doesn’t like the look of it and is referring me.

is it really bad news that I’ve possibly had it for years and done nothing? I’m veering between thinking it can’t be a carcinoma if I’ve had it for years and I’m still alive to thinking well I’m really fucked and it will have spread everywhere.

Anyone know anything about them and ideally a reassuring story? 😄

My Dad had a squamous cell. Can you post a photo?

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 20/05/2022 11:00

Jesus, don't post a photo!

I had this on my shoulder but it was changing rapidly and then "disappeared". The surgeon cut it out, thankfully it was benign. Hopefully yours will too!

My dad had one. He had it removed, a quick and simple procedure. It never spread or anything, so that was the end of it.

Hopefully that’s all it’ll be and the fact it’s been there for years won’t be an issue

I had one removed from behind my ear yesterday. It had been there about 3 years

Squamous cell is very slow growing. My dad had one on his shin the size of 3 x £2coins which they were treating as an ulcer until a doctor said he want happy with it and sent him for a biopsy. He had to have it cut out with a 2cm clearance band around it (which they couldn’t quite get) and a skin graft with skin taken from his thigh. He said the skin graft was the most painful part. He never had to have any further treatment, no spread and got the all clear. Good luck and stay positive!

Thanks both of you, that’s reassuring. Hope you’re doing ok @Desolate2nite 👍🏻
