Hi there, I only noticed the rash today - it’s so snotty, not itchy, I do feel burning sensation that’s about it? Large area of spots and redness and then loads of small red spots. I’m scared ?

Do they disappear when you press a glass against them?

BruceAndNosh · 17/05/2022 22:32

I believe the meningitis rash doesn't blanch when you press a glass over it.

Phone the NHS 111 number and explain to them. They are trained to triage and get people the right treatment where needed. No one here can or should attempt to tell you whether that rash is meningitis.

Show it to a pharmacist? Are you feeling ill? Meningitis would be very unlikely without other symptoms - why does that spring to mind?

I heard on the radio they are asking health professionals to look out for Monkey Pox - below is some pics and there are symptoms (but I think you will feel quite ill - not just spots that are itchy)

Characteristics of the meningococcal septicaemia rash:
Rapidly spreading
Not blanching when pressed/glass rolled over it
Rapidly trying to die

I've seen the meningococcal rash scores of times, but cannot tell whether it is that rash over the internet. If you genuinely think you might have the meningococcal rash, get to A&E now. If the rash is rapidly spreading, and you feel crap, dial 999 before you pass out.

(The rash is not a sign of meningitis. Signs of meningitis are headache, photophobia, and stiff neck. The rash can be a sign of sepsis, which kills you a hell of a lot faster)

If you were ill enough with meningitis to develop the rash you would be very unwell and would have been unwell before the rash, so please don't worry too much

Heat rash? Contact dermatitis/allergic reaction?

Call 111 though as I am sure they will be able to reassure you.

Could be a pressure bruise. I can bruise like that if I've leant against something with a lot of my weight behind it.

Cloverforever · 17/05/2022 23:02

It could be scabies.
