Terrified I have MND muscles twitching

I'm nearly 34 female and for the last 3 weeks I've been experiencing muscle twitching mainly in my calf's, thighs and knee area. But also felt them by my elbow and in my bum cheeks.
They come and go through the day and I'm more focusing on noticing them since I started worrying about MND.
I googled and I'm now terrified I may have Motor neurone Disease 😩 I have health anxiety and I'm not sure what to think right now.
I wish I hadn't googled but I can't help myself and fell down the rabbit hole of MND and now I'm fixated on that and worrying myself sick 🥺

I had this and got worried. Turned out to be electrolyte deficiency. Get some magnesium supplements and make sure you're up to date on your vitamins / minerals (lucozade). It can also be worse when you're anxious, anxiety can cause it - calm down. :)

my muscles sometimes twitch. And the more I notice them the more they do it. I ignore it and it goes away!
health anxiety is a bastard. What treatment are you having?
googling is a mistake. Make a GP appointment mention the twitching but focus on the anxiety.

WaterBottle123 · 17/05/2022 21:32

I get this when tired. Step away from Google

iklboo · 17/05/2022 21:34

I get this when I'm dehydrated, pretty much where you do. Up your fluid intake & ask your GP if you can have bloods done for Vit D & B bits deficiencies.

I had these twitches after reading up about some other symptoms I had an convinced myself I had MS- I saw that turns out my health anxiety had made me so anxious it was causing the twitches because I'd read about the twitches! Once I'd had an MRI and I'd got the reassurance I (wrongly) needed they stopped as suddenly as they started.

From one health anxiety sufferer to another, stay off google- and apply the two week test; up your vitamin intake including b12 and magnesium and vitamin d and give it two weeks of not thinking about it as much as possible. If the twitches are still there after that time THEN make an appointment with your GP to investigate further.

Your mind is so powerful and it's amazing the symptoms it can manifest. There are so many more likely things it can be than MND.

As soon as I read it I thought magnesium. Sometimes our body lets us know in irritating ways that we're not getting the right shit in our diets.

How are you feeling now? Have the twitching reduced? Sending you well wishes, I read your post and can relate to it myself. I am 34 yrs old and had recent blood tests done last week and have a copy of the results, bloods are normal . But for the past 4 weeks after being very very anxious with chest pain and palpitations relating to heart thinking I had an underlying heart problem I started having twitching which started of with my wrists and ankles and us now all over, eyes, neck arms and legs. Having pins and needles especially left arm and left leg. It's just that after being so anxious with my health I read things on Google (big mistake) as now I am thinking I have a serious neurological disease. My left hand (non-dominant hand) feels very stiff and weak. I can hold things but not for too long and my fingers begin to ache so have to keep fidgeting my fingers. Also been having internal head tremors and the back of my head and neck hurt especially very achy when I tilt my head back my neck hurts. Will speak to gp again as I don't know if this is health anxiety making me believe the worst case scenario or if there is an actual problem

I am still taking multivitamin tablet and have been applying magnesium night lotion (3.5 weeks now) but haven't seen any improvement. Keep thinking about my 5 yrs old daughter and husband.

@Bighugs88 and @gamerchick how both of you are now? I have a myriad of symptoms, some are similar and really worried 😟 so wondered how did you get on?

emituofo · 18/03/2023 15:37

Try magnesium tablets. I had eye twitching issues a few years back, it lasted a few months on and off. I have seen private doctors multiple times and had test done too, they couldnt tell me what was wrong.

A friend just said it could be a lack of magnesium. I didnt believe it would solve the problems but it wouldnt hurt to try. It only took a few days for my eyes stoppedtwitching, it was magical.

Hi 🖐,
I am better now I hd various tests done w.g. blood tests & heart related scans and results came back normal with PAC- atrial ectopic heartbeat. All of my symptoms relating to muscle twitching and tremors where all anxiety related but during that time I refused to believe it as just being anxiety. However, i have come to realise physical symptoms of anxiety can range from neurological to gastro/ heart. It's best to see a doctor to get a few tests done for exclusion purposes. Looking back now I did go through a very difficult time, me and husband are TTC for baby number 2, I had 2 consecutive miscarriages last year and just been told to keep trying as for the vast majority of gynaecological clinics via NHS have a criteria of 3 miscarriages or more. So have been trying for a baby but nothing so far.

Someone has mentioned magnesium tablets, I bought magnesium citrate tablets and can say they have helped. I take 1 tablet daily after food. Take care x

That's the cruelest thing about anxiety, it can masquerade as just about any symptom on the planet.

I empathise.

@Todaynotalways

It's hard I remember feeling no one could really understand with regards to my close relatives. Anxiety is horrible, tiring and drains you with a constant fear of the worse. It has started creeping up again recently as I have been TTC and being really disappointed when AF arrives. But I try to take time out for myself, for walks and getting fresh air. Thanks for your message x
