Do I need this lump looked at?

Just wanted to get some opinions on whether to get a lump on my arm looked at by the doctors. I know how overwhelmed they are at the moment so it feels daft talking about something so small that isn’t impacting my life.

Ive had this small lump growing on the top of my arm for about a year now for no apparent reason. Not sure where it came from and I thought it would just go but it’s still there. It’s pink/red and slightly dimpled on top. Doesn’t hurt but certainly isn’t going away like I hoped. Do I need to bother my doctor?

Yes, any new growth should be evaluated.

I think yes too but NOT because I think it's anything to worry about but because it's new, growing etc. Hope all ok.

I have one that looks almost identical and was diagnosed as a dermatofibroma (benign lump) but always worth getting them looked at. Mine was diagnosed by photo during lockdown. It has grown since then so I mentioned to gp recently and they had an actual look at it.

@TheLittleCabbages , did you get it checked? Hope it's nothing to worry about.

I have one too, had it looked at and they said it was nothing. It's in a very annoying place though ,right where my T shirt sleeve is on my arm and it irritates it. I'm looking at getting it removed privately but it's about £300+ from googling !

custardbear · 20/05/2022 09:46

Yep! It's probably fine but best check

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 20/05/2022 09:53

Apparently the slight dimple indicates a dermatofibroma but as everyone else has said best get it checked to make sure.

BobaTea · 20/05/2022 10:06

I have a tiny spot on my face for a few months. I don't want to bother the GP so do you think a pharmacist can have a look? Are they trained to look at skin?

GettingStuffed · 20/05/2022 13:33

Get it checked. It looks like my keloid scars

candle18 · 20/05/2022 21:56

Pretty sure it’s a dermatofibroma, I’ve had a few on my leg.

How did you get rid of them?

candle18 · 21/05/2022 19:34

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor I two removed and have small scars and have another that I’ve just left. I don’t think they go away on their own.

How were they removed, surgically or frozen? Anything I read says the scar is worse than the bump etc so to leave them. Are you in the UK, was it expensive if you don't mind me asking ?

candle18 · 21/05/2022 20:45

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor I’m in the UK and my GP did it surgically with a couple of stitches. That was quite a number of years ago though and I was a bit concerned as one was itchy but I’m not so sure they would do it now. I would agree that it’s not really worth it as there will be a scar.

Thanks for the info. The NHS page says they don't remove them so it would have to be private. Tbh I think I'd prefer a small scar, it annoys the hell out of me.
