Shock wave therapy for Achilles problem

I’ve recently been diagnosed with Achilles’ tendonosis and bursitis together with calcification and heel spur.
the Doctor told me about surgery which had a good chance of correcting it though could take 12 months.
He also mentioned shock wave therapy which is far less invasive and this is definitely something I’d prefer.

Has anyone had Shock wave therapy or know much about it please?
I’m in a great deal of pain and open to any suggestions.

Many thanks.

I've not had it, but am off to a podiatry appointment this afternoon and they offer this. Will report back later.

Sorry for the late reply. I saw an MSK podiatrist last week, and was diagnosed with hypermobility which is the cause of my foot issues.
I need orthotics to help the problems heal and not return, and will have shock wave therapy to speed up the healing process, but without the diagnosis I would continue getting problems and potentially worse ones in the future.
So maybe worth seeing an MSK specialist to find out the cause of your Achilles problems before you start treatment.

I've had it a few times as part of ankle rehabilitation. Doesn't hurt, I can't say if it worked as it was part of a whole treatment. Acupuncture definitely helped, the difference was dramatic.

I've not had Shock Therapy, but I have had surgery for the exact same issue. The surgeon removed the heel spur and repaired the Achilles. It was a long road to recovery but it was worth every minute of it as I have no pain anymore and I am back to being very active. The surgery was 15 years ago and I've had no problems since then. I was worried that the heel spur would grow back but it hasn't.

Thank you everyone.

I broke my other ankle 18 months ago and been suffering with pain in it. I was having physio on it but started with horrendous pain/discomfort in my ‘good’ ankle. The physio said I’d been overcompensating and this had brought it on.
My broken ankle is almost back to normal but the pain is so bad. Obviously I’d rather not have the operation as I’m caring for elderly parents and need to be able to drive to them as and when needed.
thank you x
