Hi there so I went for an ultrasound today as I've been have some gynaecological problems for the last year or so, she began doing the scan and about a minute in she said what was the date of your last period I had told her I was on the depo she continued but had a really puzzling look on her face she then said I'm gonna have to do a internal if that's okay so she did and the assistant next to me asked if I was sexually active, she then did the internal and said I would here results from my doctors within ten days, do you think they suspected pregnancy as I'm absolutely freaking out as obviously I have been on the depo injection for the last year so I thought that would be impossible.

Its a standard question to ask on a pelvic ultrasound as some measurements change depending on where you are in your cycle. I had one a few months ago and had to wait a week for results its an anxious wait.

I’ve had a few and they’ve always asked where I am in my cycle and if I’m on hormonal contraception. I think they measure the womb lining and things which would change depending on how close you are to your period. She may have been struggling to get a good imagine, hence the puzzled look and request for an internal (I’ve also always ended up with internal scans as my womb tilts so is awkward to see)

Surely if she thought you were pregnant she would have told you, if only to give you the chance not to eat oysters with Brie and vodka shots.

Perhaps what triggered the question was simply that something looked thicker/thinner/darker/whatever than expected in an ovulating/non-ovulating woman? (IANAMedic)

The 'puzzled' look could be her concentrating face. I really don't think you should read anything into any of this.

I work in ultrasound. They would have told you there and then if you were pregnant. These are standard questions to gauge where in your cycle you are. A transvaginal scan should always offered during a pelvic ultrasound as it gets a better, closer and clearer look in your uterus, at you ovaries and endometrium.

By the way, I'd suggest you contact your doctor rather than waiting around for them to contact you. This is what we advise our patients.
