Drinking too much Coke Zero

Anybody else drink far too much of this delicious elixir? I am completely (shamefully) addicted but I really want to give it up. On a wild day I could have 8 cans a day- I just love the fizz and the habit is hard to break. I'm trying to drink more squash/ water as I feel I'm putting on so much weight/bloat

Tell me your success stories 😁😁

Did those that quit switch to water?

I have 2-3 cans a day of Pepsi max or Coke Zero (whichever is on offer). When I'm the office I'm fine with my water bottle instead. But at home, I find it a lot harder.

I went cold turkey with Diet Coke. It's been about 5 years and still don't touch the stuff in case it draws me back in.

I just switched to drinking more tea and some water but have now gone caffeine free. Definitely feel better. You do have to push past the headaches - I think that's what kept me from going back - the thought of having to get through the withdrawal headaches again

I dont really like tea or particularly coffee, so to get rid of headaches I've started just having an espresso a day. Dont particularly like the taste but it's about one mouthful if you let it cool. I feel much better a little caffeinated- I think it helps my adhd.

Pepsi max cherry or raspberry for me. Only drink one can though and through a metal straw after a serious telling off by my dentist

Pepsi max was my elixir of choice for about 15 years. Easily drink 6-8 cans a day. The only thing I would drink. And then at New Year I just decided enough was enough and I was spending too much money on it. I still drink it now but I don’t buy it for the house or for work. So my intake is massively massively reduced and I feel much better for it. Do love vimto light diluting though 😂

Cherry Pepsi Max is my ambrosia of choice. So, similar.

Like you OP, I love the cold fizzy feeling on my tongue. I suppose if I were to try and lessen the amount of it I drink then sparkling water might replace the fizziness but I'd need to flavour it with something and I don't know what that something would be :/

That stuff is so good! And so bad! I only permit myself a can or 500ml bottle because if I bought 2l bottles I'd drink the whole lot in a few hours.

I think the theory is that sweeteners give you the same cravings and high/lows as sugar. I suppose that's why it interferes with weight loss.

I've given up all caffeine - coffee and diet coke- and feel much more energetic. My sleep has improved too.

And 8 cans a day must be costing you a fair bit!

marshmallowmama · 10/05/2022 15:39

Has anyone found a nice exciting flavour of squash that they recommend? I bought a really nice one ages ago, I think it was Robinson's that made it and I think it was rhubarb and something. Can't seem to find it now tho. But I'd love something nicer than the typical orange/ blaccurrant/ summer fruits kinda flavours

I get a 24 pack for £8, so would be about £20 a week? Not that bad.

Bottles is cheaper. One 2l a day, two for £3, £10.50 a week. Sadly not expensive enough to be motivated to save the money and cut down!

Both DH and I have a terrible relationship with it. We go through phases of cutting it out but one of us always gives in, dragging the other in. We have the same with Lucazade.

DreamingofItaly2023 · 10/05/2022 16:42

I am on day 8 of giving up Pepsi. Had headaches to begin with and now fatigue but starting to see the end of the tunnel. I was worried about my bones.

marshmallowmama · 10/05/2022 17:02

@DreamingofItaly2023 well done you!!!! It's a big achievement it really is. I don't think we are educated enough of the affects of consuming all these artificial sweeteners

runforyourdog · 10/05/2022 19:46

My husband went through a phase of this I was shocked when I saw his office waste paper bin!! It stained all his teeth as well.
