I want my smell back

I'm so so fed up with having no smell. Diagnosed with long covid a year ago(although not convinced that's what it is). I now have chronic asthma and constant rhinitis.....and no smell . Previously totally fit and well with no health conditions. It affects my taste too. It briefly improved for a while and it was so lovely being able to smell my food, perfume etc but now it's gone again and I miss it so much 😔

you can do nose training apparently? Also can you take zinc supplements? heard this can help.

Firstshoes · 08/05/2022 17:40

Thanks for the reply. I've been doing smell training for months and take daily zinc. When it came back I thought that was it but it's totally gone again for the last couple of months

Me too, so I feel your pain. It’s been 8 months for me and some days are worse than others. Wish I had something good to say to you.

Firstshoes · 08/05/2022 17:54

Sorry to hear you are going through it too. I know there are much worse things that can happen and I shouldn't complain but I really miss being able to smell!

Oh god you poor thing. I am about nine weeks of no taste/smell and it is miserable.

you could try water fasting. when you get to about 3 - 4 days in it kickstarts your stemcells, you grow new ones for all sorts of conditions and it's rejuvenating for the body. Might be worth a bit of research but a lot of people use it for healing various ailments. you have to do it properly with electrolytes though and ease into it. Have a google about fasting, autophagy, stem cells, there are some great youtube videos. may even be some about fasting for loss of smell.

Lost my taste and smell for years after a vile ear, nose and throat infection. I could only taste sweet, salty or very spicy food & occasionally smell things. It came back eventually in stages. Horrible so full sympathy OP.

Firstshoes · 09/05/2022 06:07

Muppamup, water fasting sounds interesting. I'm going to have a read. I truly will try anything to get it back at this stage. Thank you to everyone else for taking the time to reply

could it be the rhinitis causing the loss of smell and taste. A particularly acute bout caused me to lose mine for a number of months. Fortunately lots of (different) antihistamines and steroids, and a new hoover largely cleared that up.

Pegasaurus · 09/05/2022 06:23

Me too, it's been 18 months now but @CherryRipe1's post has given me hope and I'll look into fasting top.

Pegasaurus · 09/05/2022 06:24

*too

Firstshoes · 09/05/2022 08:01

It is rhinitis but I also started with adult onset asthma at the same time. It has all been attributed to long covid. Apparently it's a good sign that it has returned briefly intermittently so hopefully it hasn't gome forever. I've been given steroid nasal sprays, antihistamines of all types but nothing really helps.
