Gait analysis

Middle aged DH over pronates. I think this is related to chronic knee pain. Any ideas who can look at this and investigate further? Would consider going private.

Podiatrist. He may need orthotics.

Physiotherapist? The private one I saw offered custom made orthotics to help with problems like that.

A podiatrist. I have custom orthotics which cost a small fortune but without them my knees ache constantly and there’s no way I’d be able to run and walk as far as I do.

My adult DS2 had gait analysis last year... it was very interesting to watch!
They stuck what looked like little electrodes..markers all over his legs and lower back and had him walk, try and run etc and it showed on a computer exactly how his body was moving.

He has some mild physical disabilty abd used to wear AFOs but didn't want to any more. He pronates horribly and his feet are very badly shaped now, but the upshot was nice new orthotics for inside his boots. He had analysis on the NHS due to years of wearing splints but a good podiatrist or orthotist should be able to do it for your DH privately.

Most of my family have awful pronating feet and orthotics really make a difference to hip and knee pain!

Hmmm.... the jury is very much still out on gait analysis. You can put a sticking plaster on the issue with orthotics or built-up shoes (been there, done that) but that doesn't address the underlying issue, which is often a combination of lazy glutes, a weak core and carrying too much body weight.
My overpronation got 99% better when I lost two stone and started doing strength exercises.

Lots of good advice here. Physio and Pilates are good. Proper stretching. Massage. Getting the right shoes. And orthotics.

Getting to the heart of the issue is really important. For me, hypermobility is the cause. Pilates has helped the most.
