Computer work and neck/shoulder pain

Hello

My work involves sitting at a computer, all day Sad

It is making my neck/shoulders sore

Any suggestions?

I have adjusted my monitor, take regular breaks, do yoga

Any one in a similar position? Any suggestions?

Are you using a laptop or a desktop?

I assume you're doing the usual recommendations with regards to how your chair, desk, keyboard, mouse etc should be set up?

Taking regular breaks is really important

Using a headset if you're talking on the phone whilst typing

My neck was damaged during lockdown thanks to using a laptop at my kitchen table. My physio told me to press my chin down to my chest to stretch my neck. I ended up wearing a neck support for a time. I used a Shakti pillow of an evening to help. But the thing that really helped was giving up using the computer, sadly.

Yeah, laptops are no good for working long periods unless you've got a separate screen like you have or a laptop stand and separate keyboard.

I had the same problem as you but I've set myself up properly now and I feel so much better. My only downfall is sitting down too long and not taking regular breaks.

A separate mouse will help. Those finger pad things on laptops are awful.

you need to take a break every 40 minutes
try some exercises
or try occ health/physio referral

Regular breaks

raise laptop on a stand and use a wireless mouse and keep board

use a footrest and a lumbar support in your chair (I have something called a ‘back friend’)

regularly get up and walk around/stretch

if you are working at home - don’t be barefoot /wear slippers. Buy some lace up ‘house shoes’ (my osteo recommended this and it really helped).

Never had an assessment, I work variable hours and have filled in the risk assessment but work remotely about two hours away from office where the main college is
