B12 deficiency – muscle and joint pain?

Hi there, I've been feeling really unwell for the past 18 months, the main symptoms being muscle and joint pain and stiffness, specifically in my legs and knees. My legs get so stiff I can't walk down the stairs. I now do no exercise despite previously running 20 miles a week. I also suffer from fatigue all the time, random rashes, brain fog and complete lack of concentration and recently have had some horrible dizzy spells and lightheadedness as well as tingling in my hands.

The GP ran a load of tests for different autoimmune conditions as I have an underactive thyroid already, but what has come back is low B12. I'm having additional tests next week to confirm this, but I wanted to know, does anyone else have a B12 deficiency and have awful muscle and joint pain? I know a lot of my symptoms can be explained by this but not sure about the muscle and joint pain…

Hi op, did you get to the bottom of your joint/muscle aches? I'm about to see GP regarding this. I am going to request checks on vitamin deficiency and thyroid. I am having heavy periods (recent gynae tests ruled out anything sinister) and I am definitely perimenopausal. Would be interested to hear if you have anything else to add or whether anyone has experienced similar.

try vitamin d as well, especially if already hypothyroid

Did your GP test for coeliac disease as it can go together with pernicious anaemia which is then treated with B12 injections? (in those cases B12 in the diet or supplements is not absorbed).

You're not likely to be peri menopausal are you? I started with joint pain and thyroid issues in early 40's and only towards my late 40's realised they were the start of my menopause symptoms.

Hi again. I finally went to an MSK podiatrist this week about my foot/joint problem(s), and was told I'm hypermobile. Reading up on this explains so many problems I've had since childhood, including headaches and always feeling very tired, and my more recent joint pain. Definitely worth looking into that as a cause of your symptoms.
