Niggly Pain (Kidney stones)How did yours start

So i was diagnosed with a kidney stone in November which i was told was to big to pass and i would be referred (Still waiting)
This was a random find, so no pain etc

Over the last few days iv had niggly pain in the kidney and side area (below ribs) on the side where the kidney stone is, a little bit of stronger pain but for only very short periods

If you have had kidney stones, did your pain get worse gradually or start very suddenly and was very bad?

I have numerous medical conditions, some very serious so ideally dont want to go to A&E if this may not be pain from the kidney stone …
If i didnt know i had kidney stones i wouldnt be thinking of A&E with the level of pain at the moment at all

So just wanted to know how your kidney stone pain started please?

Thank you

I have kidney stones, I'm pregnant so can't have any treatment at the minute. They are causing traces of blood in my urine but no pain atm

Mine started with a buffet pain as you describe , nothing to write home about , then a week later I was sat on the sofa watching TV and I went from being completely fine to feeling like I was going to die in about 20 mins. It was equally comparable to child birth but scarier because I didn’t know what it was.

Sorry typos ! Niggly pain not buffet !

Mine was severe crippling pain lower back on one side… only thing that helped was prescription of antibiotics.

Yep I had some months of a niggling pain. It never really went away and concerned me enough that I went to the doctor

Was referred for a pelvic scan . Nothing

Was then referred for a bladder scan - nothing. She then checked my kidneys and there it was - a cm big so too big to pass

I had to have lithotripsy and this caused something called 'stone street' as in it shattered the stone into pieces but they were too big to pass

And it was then - as I waited for a second session of lithotripsy - that I endured a fortnight of hell on earth. Dear god ... the agony.

On the plus side, as soon as second lot of lithotripsy done, the stones passed . This was 6 years ago and so far I've not had a recurrence

Btw if you're offered a stent don't accept this. A stent has to stay in for a minimum of 6 months leaving you at a higher risk of infections

Ask for lithotripsy and get it gone

Thank you all

and thanks for the stent advice @HardRockOwl
Appreciate that
