Tender pea-sized lump in armpit

5 replies

I noticed that my armpit was felling tender when my top touched it or if I moved a certain way. I think it started yesterday. I didn’t think too much of it, but have felt the area this evening and there is a tender pea sized lump. No redness and the lump seems to sit just beneath the skin though not particularly visible.

I will see what it’s like tomorrow but just looking for advice/experiences really.

Thing to note is that I had the same sort of thing a few weeks back when I had Covid and at that point I just assumed it was a lymph node fighting off the virus. It went after a day or two. Not sure if the pea was there then, but definitely the same tender/sore to touch feeling.

I've had this a few times, painful lump within the skin of my armpit, I suffer with health anxiety and I was convinced it was some terrible

I went to the doctors and they told me it was most likely a cyst / boil.

I found they would often appear if I had recently shaved or if I was due on my period

@Mungojerry69 ouch, sounds nasty!

@Moonlight20 good that you were able to get reassurance, I think anything ‘lumpy’ is always concerning, but I think realistically unlikely to be anything awful.

It's still sore today, so my plan is to leave it a bit and see what happens. I’ll go to GP if it doesn’t go away.

I used to get awful awful boils in my armpits all the time, I think they were hormonal, they have cleared up as Ive got older

A painful lump is most likely to be a cyst/blocked follicle or lymph node. I would get the GP have a look if it's still there in 2 weeks time.
