Toddler stammer

My very outgoing and chatty 2.3 years toddler son has develepoed a stammer over the last few weeks.

He has a huge vocabulary and has been chatting in sentences since he was 16 months old. However his Dad and Uncle had what they describe as debilitating stammers and he is becoming aware of his difficulties, even though we dont say anything and give him lots of time to get his words out. It is heart breaking to hear him say y, y, y, y, y, y, for you) and then his eyes drop and he says 'nothing'.

Please advise could this just be a phase or is this the age when stammers do appear? Am trying to contact h.v for advice but no luck so far.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Probably just a phase. Most 2 - 3 year olds go through it actually. Its where they want to say so muchbut their little brains can't keep up. The trick is to ignore it. It is a bit of an attention thing, so commenting won't help. By all means make your HV aware of it, but it'll probably go away as quickly as it arrived
HTH.

it's a normal developmental phase .. don't worry about it and don't focus on it . fixed smile on mouth and let him get it out

his brain's just working a little faster than his mouth can
