Are Specsavers deliberately prescribing glasses?

I’ve had eye tests over the years and never had concern (apart from once as a child). Yet the Specsaver optician has now told me that I may benefit from them as one eye is curved. I don’t need them, I can see fine day to day etc….

When I was a child we went to the opticians and were all given glasses - all five of us. As adults we never wear them.

I can’t help to think Specsavers just wanted to make a sale?

I’ve been going to Specsavers for years, time before last they said nothing changed, lets leave next test for 18 months (instead of annual) same for my son.
I went a few weeks ago, nothing changed, optician quite happy for me to walk out with the same glasses. I wasnt as they were glued together and generally worn out.
I do remember going once thinking everything was fine, my new prescription was a revelation to me.

So the optician said ‘you may benefit’ that seems to me to be very different from ‘you need them’ not exactly a hard sell

I've found Specsavers pretty good. They've said before that DS has a very small prescription but that it doesn't really need glasses. And they've been on the ball with DD. She needs more eye tests than usual, and they don't always end up with a new prescription. They only change her glasses when necessary.

I went to spec savers when I was having eye problems due to bells palsy. They said v. Small prescription and generally wouldn’t recommend glasses. No pressure to buy. I did anyway as I wanted to protect my eyes. Try being unable to blink in one eye on a day when it’s windy and dust/ dirt is being blown at your face. The anti glare has been really good for computer work though.
