Wisdom tooth removal

Anyone had wisdom teeth removed under local anaesthetic?

I’m about to start Invisalign treatment for crowding, and my orthodontist has suggested I have my two remaining wisdom teeth extracted, although he says it’s not essential and my choice to make. I had the two upper ones removed years ago, it was done under sedation by an oral surgeon as they were impacted. The lower ones have come through fine and I’ve never had any issues with them, the reason for removing is simply to create more space in my mouth, and also they are non functional as now have no opposing tooth to bite against. I’ve heard the lower ones are a lot harder to remove than the upper ones and was a bit horrified when the orthodontist said I wouldn’t be sedated, just a local anaesthetic.

Anyone who had had these out, how bad was it, and how was the recovery?

Recently had upper one out under local and was totally fine. I was far more worried about it than I needed to be.

I had both my bottom ones taken out under local anaesthetic at separate times; one was impacted so the the recovery on that one was harder as my face got a bit swollen but the other was fine. I had diazepam prescribed to take an hour or two before which meant I was nice and calm and the actual removal wasn’t awful. I was back at work within couple of days and taking painkillers for a few days.
If I were to have my upper ones out I’d rather be under local anaesthetic again as I was in and out of hospital quickly and not battling the feelings of anaesthetic

Thanks. I am squeamish and get quite anxious about medical procedures so I'm a bit worried I wouldn't be able to handle it if I was awake. I've never taken diazepam, not sure if that would help or not. I was also wondering about recovery time as I have a social event one week after the removal appointment where I would be disappointed if I wasn't able to eat and drink normally.

I had one lower wisdom tooth out with local and it was totally fine (was pregnant at the time so they didn’t offer anything stronger). Good luck.

I had an impacted one removed but under a general. Recovery was worse than I thought and I got dry socket which delayed things.

Good luck OP, I'm sure if there is nothing wrong with the tooth the recovery should be fine. Painkillers, lots of water and rest!

I had 3 wisdom teeth removed at different times. All under local anaesthetic. One of them (lower one) was broken and was very difficult to remove for this reason so I was prescribed something afterwards. I think that there was some nerve damage as certain neck movements became more difficult afterwards.

I always took the day off on the day of tooth removal and if possible the next day but I could do this in my job.
Generally I’m strongly in the camp : don’t remove your teeth unless absolutely necessary, even the wisdom ones.
